The Penn State Nittany Lions (1-0) started the 2024 college football season at Milan Puskar Stadium against the West Virginia Mountaineers (0-1). There was a two-hour rain delay but that did not hurt the Nittany Lions as they defeated the Mountaineers 34-12.
Penn State had 457 yards on offense (235 yards passing, 222 yards rushing) and 21 first downs. Quarterback Drew Allar completed 11 of 17 passes (65%) for 216 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 6 carries for 44 yards. Backup quarterback Beau Pribula completed one pass for 19 yards, one touchdown, and 3 carries for 25 yards.
Running back Nicholas Singleton had 13 carries for 114 yards, one touchdown, and one catch for 13 yards. Wide receiver Harrison Wallace III made 5 catches for 117 yards, and 2 touchdowns, while Omari Evans made 2 catches for 55 yards. Kicker Sander Sahaydak missed one field goal. Penn State’s defense made 69 tackles, 6 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, 5 pass breakups, two fumble recoveries, and one interception.
West Virginia had 246 yards on offense (161 yards passing, 85 yards rushing) and 19 first downs. Quarterback Garrett Greene completed 15 of 28 passes (53.6%) for 161 yards, and 10 carries for 5 yards. Running back C.J. Donaldson Jr. had 12 carries for 42 yards, one touchdown, and one catch for 6 yards.
Wide receiver Preston Fox made 2 catches for 41 yards, and Traylon Ray made 4 catches for 37 yards. Kicker Michael Hayes II made 2 of 2 field goals with a long of 39 yards. West Virginia’s defense made 72 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, and two pass breakups.
