The Calgary Stampeders signed defensive back Justin Sambu to the practice squad on Tuesday according to the CFL Transactions page.
Justin Sambu is six foot four and weighs 284 pounds. The 25-year-old from Calgary, Alberta, was drafted by the Toronto Argonauts in the sixth round (54th pick) in the 2024 CFL Draft. Sambu appeared in two preseason games recording no stats.
The Argonauts released Sambu on June 2, 2024. The Calgary Stampeders signed Sambu on July 16, 2024. He played two games for the Stampeders in 2024 making one tackle and one sack. The Stampeders released him on September 1, 2024.
Collegiately, Sambu played four seasons at the University of Maine (2019-22) making 59 tackles (22 solo, 37 assists), 10 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery in 28 games for the Black Bears.
Then, Sambu transferred to Baylor in 2023 making two tackles (1 solo, 1 assist) in 12 games for the Bears. At Clarkson North High School in Calgary, Alberta, Sambu was named Team Canada in 2016. He was rated as the eighth-best player in Canada and the second-best defensive end in the nation in 2016.
