Hamilton Tiger-Cats sign five players including DB Leonard Johnson

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats signed running back Lorenzo Lingard, wide receiver Reggie Brown, defensive lineman Mario Kendricks, and defensive backs Leonard Johnson and Jayden Price to the practice squad on Sunday.

Lorenzo Lingard is six foot and weighs 205 pounds. The 25-year-old from Orange City, Florida, signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted free agent on May 10, 2024, but was released on August 4, 2024.

Then, he signed with the New York Giants on August 12, 2024. Lingard played two preseason games with two carries for 13 yards and one catch for six yards. The Giants released him on August 25, 2024.

Collegiately, Lingard played two seasons at Miami (FL) (2018-19) with 17 carries for 138 yards, two touchdowns, and two tackles (1 solo, 1 assist) in six games for the Hurricanes. Next, he transferred to Florida (2020-22) with 26 carries for 150 yards, one touchdown, three catches for 31 yards, and three tackles (1 solo, 2 assists) in 32 games for the Gators.

Then, Lingard transferred to Akron in 2023 with 143 carries for 641 yards, four touchdowns, 38 catches for 368 yards, two touchdowns, five kick returns for 52 yards, and two tackles (2 solo) in 12 games for the Zips.

Reggie Brown is six foot one and weighs 195 pounds. The 25-year-old from Lakeland, Florida, signed with the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted free agent on May 4, 2024, but was released on May 7, 2024.

Collegiately, Brown played five seasons at James Madison University (2019-23) making 93 catches for 1,686 yards, 16 touchdowns, and two tackles (2 solo) in 45 games for the Dukes. In 2023, Brown made 53 catches for 1,054 yards and nine touchdowns in 13 games. He was named First Team All-Sun Belt and a Phil Steele All-American Honorable Mention.

Mario Kendricks is six foot and weighs 294 pounds. The 23-year-old from Kissimmee, Florida, signed with the Miami Dolphins as an undrafted free agent on May 14, 2024, but the Dolphins released him on July 31, 2024.

Then, Kendricks signed with the Seattle Seahawks on August 8, 2024. He played two preseason games making two tackles (1 solo, 1 assist). The Seahawks released him on August 27, 2024.

Collegiately, Kendricks played five seasons at Virginia Tech (2019-23) making 67 tackles (35 solo, 32 assists), 16 tackles for loss, 7 sacks, and three pass breakups in 56 games for the Hokies. In 2023, Kendricks made 16 tackles (10 solo, 6 assists), 4.5 tackles for loss, and 1.5 sacks in 13 games.

Leonard Johnson is six foot and weighs 194 pounds. The 26-year-old from Hayden, Alabama, tore his ACL in 2022 as he was preparing for the 2022 NFL Draft. He signed with the New York Giants as an undrafted free agent on March 25, 2023, but was released on July 25, 2023.

The Toronto Argonauts signed Johnson on December 29, 2023. In 2024, Johnson made 24 tackles in four games. The Argonauts released him on August 31, 2024.

Collegiately, Johnson played four seasons at Duke (2018-21) with 165 tackles (118 solo, 47 assists), 10 tackles for loss, two sacks, six interceptions, one touchdown, 24 pass breakups, three forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries in 47 games for the Blue Devils. In the 2018 Walk-On’s Independence Bowl against Temple, Johnson made six tackles as the Blue Devils blew out the Owls 56-27.

Jayden Price is six foot and weighs 184 pounds. The 24-year-old from Derby, Kansas, signed with the Atlanta Falcons as an undrafted free agent on May 10, 2024. He played three preseason games making 14 tackles (9 solo, 5 assists). The Falcons released him on August 27, 2024.

Collegiately, Price played five seasons at North Dakota State (2019-23) making 107 tackles (73 solo, 34 assists), four tackles for loss, one sack, three interceptions for nine yards, 17 pass breakups, one forced fumble, three fumble recoveries, 63 punt returns for 910 yards, and five touchdowns in 71 games for the Bisons.

He was named Second Team All-MVFC, STATS Third Team All-American, and Phil Steele Fourth Team All-American in 2021, a two-time All-MVFC Honorable Mention, and a two-time National Champion.
