Rutgers dominates Akron for second straight win

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights (2-0) hosted the Akron Zips (0-2) on Saturday afternoon from SHI Stadium. The Scarlet Knights dominated this game beating the Zips 49-17. Rutgers had 515 yards on offense (230 yards passing, 285 yards rushing) and 26 first downs.

Quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis completed 14 of 23 passes (61%) for 230 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception. Running back Kyle Monangai had 27 carries for 208 yards, three touchdowns, one touchdown, and one catch for three yards, and Antwan Raymond had 17 carries for 77 yards, and one touchdown.

Wide receiver Chris Long made four catches for 87 yards, and one touchdown, and Dymere Miller made four catches for 77 yards. Rutgers’s defense made 55 tackles, four tackles for loss, two sacks, one interception, and five pass breakups.

Akron had 307 yards on offense (151 yards passing, 156 yards rushing) and 15 first downs. Quarterback Ben Finley completed 14 of 31 passes (45.2%) for 138 yards, one touchdown, one interception, and four carries for 29 yards. Running back Jordon Simmons had 9 carries for 109 yards and one touchdown.

Wide receiver Adrian Norton made three catches for 55 yards, and one touchdown, and Ahmarian Granger made three catches for 20 yards. Akron’s defense made 74 tackles, two tackles for loss, one interception, and four pass breakups.
