The Hamilton Tiger-Cats signed wide receiver Jalon Calhoun and released defensive lineman Benoit Marion on Wednesday.
Jalon Calhoun is five foot eleven and weighs 195 pounds. The 23-year-old from Greenville, South Carolina, signed with the Detroit Lions as an undrafted free agent on May 10, 2024. He played three preseason games making four catches for 51 yards, and one kick return for 19 yards. The Lions released him on August 27, 2024.
Collegiately, Calhoun played five seasons at Duke (2019-23) making 253 catches for 3,026 yards, 17 touchdowns, eight carries for 14 yards, one touchdown, completed 1 of 2 passes (50%) for 25 yards, one touchdown, two kick returns for 26 yards, 26 punt returns for 258 yards, and three tackles (2 solo, 1 assist) in 61 games for the Blue Devils.
In 2022, Calhoun made 62 catches for 873 yards, four touchdowns, two kick returns for 26 yards, and nine punt returns for 113 yards in 13 games. He was named Third Team All-ACC in 2022 as a receiver and return specialist. He was also a recipient of the team’s Offensive Skill Player of the Year Award.
Benoit Marion is six foot five and weighs 250 pounds. The 28-year-old from Montreal, Quebec, played one game for the Toronto Argonauts in 2024 making two tackles on special teams against the B.C. Lions. The Argonauts released Marion on June 11, 2024. The Hamilton Tiger-Cats signed Marion on June 12, 2024. He made four tackles on special teams in eight games.
The Toronto Argonauts drafted Marion in the third round (25th pick) of the 2020 CFL Draft. In three seasons, Marion made seven tackles, 11 tackles on special teams, one sack, and two forced fumbles in 31 games. He is a member of the 2022 Toronto Grey Cup championship team. In 2023, Marion made one tackle, eight tackles on special teams, one sack, and two forced fumbles in 16 games for the Argonauts.
Collegiately, Marion played four seasons at the University of Montreal (2016-19) with 66 tackles (37 solo, 29 assists), 19.5 tackles for loss, 11 sacks, one fumble recovery, and two pass breakups in 25 games for the Carabins.
