Montreal Alouettes release DL Anthony Federico and LB Bryce Notree

The Montreal Alouettes released defensive lineman Anthony Federico and linebacker Bryce Notree from the practice squad on Monday according to the CFL Transactions page.

Anthony Federico is six foot four and weighs 240 pounds. The 26-year-old from Niagara Falls, Ontario, was drafted by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the second round (17th pick) in the 2022 CFL Draft. In his rookie season, Federico made five tackles on special teams in 10 games. In 2023, Federico made five tackles on special teams in 13 games for the Ticats.

The Ticats released Federico on June 1, 2024. Federico signed with the Montreal Alouettes on July 9, 2024. He played in two games recording no stats.

Federico played two seasons for the Hamilton Hurricanes of the Canadian Junior Football League while attending Niagara College to work on his sports management diploma. As a member of the Hurricanes, Federico made 34 tackles (23 solo, 11 assists), four tackles on special teams, 11.5 sacks, one forced fumble, one pass breakup, and one blocked kick in 19 games.

Collegiately, Federico played four seasons at Queen’s University (2018-21) making 87 tackles (59 solo, 28 assists), 34.5 tackles for loss, 20.5 sacks, and one pass breakup in 23 games for the Gaels. He was named Second Team U Sports All-Canadian in 2021 after making 33 tackles (24 solo, 9 assists), 12.5 tackles for loss, and eight sacks in 9 games.

Bryce Notree is six foot three and weighs 225 pounds. The 25-year-old from Arlington, Texas, signed with the Washington Commanders as an undrafted free agent on May 16, 2022. He was released by the Commanders on August 7, 2022.

Then, Notree signed with the Montreal Alouettes on January 14, 2023. Notree made 21 tackles, 11 tackles on special teams, and one sack in 10 games for the Montreal Alouettes in 2023 helping Montreal win the 110th Grey Cup over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

The Montreal Alouettes released Notree on May 11, 2024. He re-signed with the Alouettes on July 17, 2024, and played four games making one tackle on special teams.

Collegiately, Notree played five seasons at Southern Illinois (2017-21) with 246 tackles (169 solo, 77 assists), 15 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, four interceptions for 43 yards, nine pass breakups, and one fumble recovery in 46 games with the Salukis. He was an All-MVFC Honorable Mention in 2020.

In his senior season, Notree had 90 tackles (67 solo, 23 assists), 8 tackles for loss, four sacks, two interceptions, and six pass breakups in 13 games. He was named 2nd Team All-MVFC in 2021. He finished his Southern Illinois career ranked 24th in tackles (246).
