The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (66-76) played game two of a six-game series on Wednesday night against the Worcester Red Sox (77-69) from Coca-Cola Park. Lehigh Valley starter Robinson Pina (1-4, 4.88 ERA) was on the mound against Worcester’s Hunter Dobbins (1-2, 3.45 ERA).
At the top of the first inning, Worcester had a runner on second with one out when Mickey Gasper hit an RBI double to center field scoring Roman Anthony for a 1-0 lead. Flyouts from Kyle Teel and Vaughn Grissom ended the inning.
At the top of the second inning, Worcester had runners on first and second base with two outs when Roman Anthony hit a two-run RBI double to center field scoring Tyler McDonough and Corey Rosier extending their lead 3-0. Lehigh Valley starter Robinson Pina struck out Chase Meidroth and the inning was over.
Lehigh Valley starter Robinson Pina (5.0 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 3 K) threw 90 pitches, of which 50 were strikes. Zach Haake was the new pitcher for Lehigh Valley at the top of the sixth inning. Haake (1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 1 K) threw 15 pitches, of which 9 were strikes to get three outs.
Andrew Bellatti was the new pitcher for Lehigh Valley at the top of the seventh inning. Bellatti (1.0 IP, 1 BB, 1 K) threw 18 pitches, of which 9 were strikes. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Lehigh Valley left fielder Ethan Wilson hit Chase Shugart’s sweeper for a solo home run over the wall at right field and the IronPigs trailed the Red Sox 3-1.
It was Wilson’s first home run of the season and first RBI of the year. The home run went 404 feet with an exit velocity of 107.5 mph. Lehigh Valley did not add any more runs in the inning. Michael Mercado was the new pitcher for Lehigh Valley at the top of the eighth inning. Mercado (1.0 IP, 1 H) threw 18 pitches, of which 11 were strikes.
Max Lazar was the new pitcher for Lehigh Valley at the top of the seventh inning. Lazar (1.0 IP, 1 K) threw 17 pitches, of which 11 were strikes. In the bottom of the ninth inning, Lehigh Valley had a runner on second base when left fielder Ethan Wilson hit an RBI single to left field scoring Otto Kemp and the IronPigs trailed the Red Sox 3-2. It was Wilson’s second RBI of the season.
Three batters later, Lehigh Valley had the bases loaded with nobody out when right fielder David Dahl struck out on a wild pitch scoring Ethan Wilson, and the game was tied 3-3. Then, Worcester pitcher Yohan Ramírez’s ball passed by catcher Kyle Teel during Scott Kingery’s plate appearance and Aramis Garcia scored to end the game. The IronPigs defeated the Red Sox 4-3 snapping a six-game losing streak.
Lehigh Valley finished the night with seven hits. The win went to Lehigh Valley Max Lazar for his third win of the season and the loss went to Worcester pitcher Yohan Ramirez for his first loss of the season.
