The Rutgers Scarlet Knights (3-0) visited Lane Stadium on Saturday afternoon against the Virginia Tech Hokies (2-2). Rutgers had 422 yards on offense (269 yards passing, 153 yards rushing), and 25 first downs as the Scarlet Knights beat the Hokies 26-23.
Rutgers quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis completed 16 of 25 passes (64%) for 269 yards, and 11 carries for 16 yards. Running back Samuel Brown V had 14 carries for 60 yards, and two touchdowns, and Kyle Monangai had 26 carries for 84 yards and one touchdown.
Wide receiver Ian Strong made four catches for 110 yards, and Dymere Miller made five catches for 98 yards. Rutgers’s defense made 49 tackles, four tackles for loss, one sack, and one interception.
Virginia Tech had 320 yards on offense (137 yards passing, 183 yards rushing), and 14 first downs. Quarterback Kyron Drones completed 13 of 27 yards (48.1%) for 137 yards, one interception, and nine carries for 60 yards. Running back Bhayshul Tuten had 15 carries for 122 yards and three touchdowns.
Wide receiver Jaylin Lane made two catches for 38 yards, and Da’Quan Felton made three catches for 27 yards. Virginia Tech’s defense made 83 tackles, seven tackles for loss, three sacks, and four pass breakups.
