The Vienna Vikings re-signed quarterback Ben Holmes to a one-year contract extension through the 2025 season on Thursday.
Ben Holmes is six foot and weighs 200 pounds. The 29-year-old from Orchard Park, New York, signed with the Vienna Vikings on November 21, 2023. In 2024, Holmes completed 187 of 301 passes (62.1%) for 2,603 yards, 34 touchdowns, five interceptions, and 28 carries for 142 yards in 10 games leading the Vikings to the ELF Championship Game.
Holmes was named an ELF First Team All-Star. In the championship game, Holmes completed 16 of 30 passes (53%) for 214 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception in a 51-20 loss to the Rhein Fire.
Holmes was with the Arizona Rattlers (IFL) and the Sea Lions (TSL) in 2021. For the Sea Lions, Holmes completed 16 of 35 passes (45.7%) for 219 yards, two interceptions, and four carries for 31 yards.
The New Jersey Generals drafted Holmes in the first round (4th pick) of the 2022 USFL Draft. Unfortunately, Homes broke his right foot before the season began and was released.
Then, Holmes spent time with the Montreal Alouettes, Edmonton Elks, and the Toronto Argonauts. He dressed for two games in the 2022 season and is a member of the 2022 Toronto Argonauts Grey Cup championship team.
Collegiately, Holmes played two seasons at Nassau Community College (2014-15) completing 210 of 379 passes (55.4%) for 2,676 yards, 29 touchdowns, 9 interceptions, 105 carries for 402 yards, and eight touchdowns in 18 career games for the Lions. He was named Junior College All-American.
Then, Holmes transferred to Tarleton State (2018-19) completing 361 of 616 passes (59%) for 5,997 yards, 62 touchdowns, 9 interceptions, 121 carries for 560 yards, and three touchdowns in 25 games for the Texans. He was named All-LSC Second Team and was the Team MVP in 2018.
