Hamilton Tiger-Cats re-sign TE Camren McDonald and sign WR Daniel Arias

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats made several moves on Monday including re-signing tight end Camren McDonald, and signing wide receiver Daniel Arias to the practice squad while releasing wide receiver Jordan Byrd from the practice squad according to the CFL Transactions page.

Camren McDonald is six foot four and weighs 245 pounds. The 25-year-old from Long Beach, California, signed with the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent on May 5, 2023, but was released on August 1, 2023.

McDonald signed with the Los Angeles Rams on August 5, 2023, appearing in three preseason games. McDonald was targeted one time recording no stats. The Rams released him on August 28, 2023. Then, McDonald signed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on April 26, 2024. McDonald attended Hamilton’s training camp before he was released on June 1, 2024.

McDonald re-signed with the Tiger-Cats on June 19, 2024. He made two catches for 11 yards in two games before he was transferred back to the practice squad. Hamilton released him on September 25, 2024.

Collegiately, McDonald played five seasons at Florida State (2018-22) making 74 catches for 861 yards, five touchdowns, two yards rushing, and seven tackles (7 solo) in 58 games for the Seminoles. In his senior season, McDonald made 21 catches for 312 yards, and one touchdown in 13 games. 

In 2021, McDonald made a career-high 24 catches for 243 yards, two touchdowns, two rushing yards, and three tackles (3 solo) in 12 games. He was named to the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, winner of the Bill McGrotha Award, a Seminole Scholar, a Wuerffel Trophy nominee, and was on the Mackey Award Watch List.

Daniel Arias is six foot three and weighs 216 pounds. The 26-year-old from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, signed with the Arizona Cardinals as an undrafted free agent on May 12, 2023. He played three preseason games for the Cardinals making five catches for 75 yards.

He spent the 2023 season on both the Arizona Cardinals and Kansas City Chiefs practice squads. In 2024, Arias played two preseason games recording no stats for Arizona. The Cardinals released him on August 21, 2024.

Collegiately, Arias played five seasons at Colorado (2018-22) making 48 catches for 750 yards, four touchdowns, two carries for one yard, and nine tackles (6 solo, 3 assists) in 36 games for the Buffaloes.

Jordan Byrd is five foot seven and weighs 170 pounds. The 24-year-old from Albuquerque, New Mexico, signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers as an undrafted free agent on May 12, 2023. He played one preseason game making one catch for -4 yards. The Steelers released Byrd on August 29, 2023.

Then, the Toronto Argonauts signed Byrd on November 22, 2023. He played two preseason games making one catch for 24 yards. The Argonauts released him on June 2, 2024. Hamilton signed Byrd on August 15, 2024. He appeared in two regular season games with five kickoff returns for 117 yards, and five punt returns for 45 yards.

Collegiately, Byrd played five seasons at San Diego State (2018-22) with 47 catches for 219 yards, one touchdown, 275 carries for 1,353 yards, 12 touchdowns, 80 kick returns for 2,020 yards, three touchdowns, 67 punt returns for 445 yards, and one touchdown in 58 games for the Aztecs. He was named a two-time First Team All-Mountain West.
