The Hamilton Tiger-Cats released wide receiver Davon “Smoke” Harris and offensive lineman Dayton Black on Wednesday according to the CFL Transactions page.

Davon “Smoke” Harris is five foot seven and weighs 183 pounds. The 24-year-old from St. Francisville, Louisiana, went undrafted in the 2024 NFL Draft and did not sign with any team. The Hamilton Tiger-Cats signed Harris on June 27, 2024. In 2024, he made one catch for eight yards in five games.

Collegiately, Harris played six seasons at Louisiana Tech (2018-23) making 308 catches for 2,908 yards, 23 touchdowns, 35 carries for 95 yards, two touchdowns, 41 kick returns for 992 yards, 82 punt returns for 829 yards, one touchdown, and two tackles (1 solo, 1 assist) in 61 games for the Bulldogs.

In 2023, Harris made 83 catches for 796 yards, four touchdowns, nine carries for one yard, six kick returns for 125 yards, 28 punt returns for 234 yards, and one touchdown in 12 games. He led the Conference USA receivers with 1,156 all-purpose yards and players with four games of 10+ receptions. Harris ended the season catching a pass in 44 consecutive games.

Harris was named to the All-Conference USA Freshman Team in 2019, two-time Second Team All-Conference USA in 2020 and 2021, and First Team All-Conference USA in 2022.

Dayton Black is six foot six and weighs 295 pounds. The 24-year-old from Brandon, Manitoba, was drafted by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the first round (6th pick) of the 2023 CFL Draft. In 2023, he dressed in 17 games, of which one was a start. This season, Black started on the six-game injured list before moving to the practice squad.

Collegiately, Black played three seasons at the University of Saskatchewan (2018-22) playing 30 games for the Huskies. He was named a Canada West All-Star (2022). He began his career as a defensive lineman before switching to the offensive line in 2021.
