The Hamilton Tiger-Cats released tight end Camren McDonald and defensive lineman Benoit Marion on Thursday according to the CFL Transactions page.
Camren McDonald is six foot four and weighs 245 pounds. The 25-year-old from Long Beach, California, signed with the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent on May 5, 2023, but was released on August 1, 2023.
McDonald signed with the Los Angeles Rams on August 5, 2023, appearing in three preseason games. McDonald was targeted one time recording no stats. The Rams released him on August 28, 2023. Then, McDonald signed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on April 26, 2024. McDonald attended Hamilton’s training camp before he was released on June 1, 2024.
McDonald re-signed with the Tiger-Cats on June 19, 2024. He made two catches for 11 yards in two games before he was transferred back to the practice squad. Hamilton released him on September 25, 2024. He re-signed with the Ticats on September 30, 2024.
Collegiately, McDonald played five seasons at Florida State (2018-22) making 74 catches for 861 yards, five touchdowns, two yards rushing, and seven tackles (7 solo) in 58 games for the Seminoles. In his senior season, McDonald made 21 catches for 312 yards, and one touchdown in 13 games.
In 2021, McDonald made a career-high 24 catches for 243 yards, two touchdowns, two rushing yards, and three tackles (3 solo) in 12 games. He was named to the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, winner of the Bill McGrotha Award, a Seminole Scholar, a Wuerffel Trophy nominee, and was on the Mackey Award Watch List.
Benoit Marion is six foot five and weighs 250 pounds. The 28-year-old from Montreal, Quebec, played one game for the Toronto Argonauts in 2024 making two tackles on special teams against the B.C. Lions. The Argonauts released Marion on June 11, 2024.
The Hamilton Tiger-Cats signed Marion on June 12, 2024. He made four tackles on special teams in eight games. The Tiger-Cats released him on September 11, 2024. Marion re-signed with the Ticats on October 2, 2024.
The Toronto Argonauts drafted Marion in the third round (25th pick) of the 2020 CFL Draft. In three seasons, Marion made seven tackles, 11 tackles on special teams, one sack, and two forced fumbles in 31 games. He is a member of the 2022 Toronto Grey Cup championship team. In 2023, Marion made one tackle, eight tackles on special teams, one sack, and two forced fumbles in 16 games for the Argonauts.
Collegiately, Marion played four seasons at the University of Montreal (2016-19) with 66 tackles (37 solo, 29 assists), 19.5 tackles for loss, 11 sacks, one fumble recovery, and two pass breakups in 25 games for the Carabins.
