The Houston Roughnecks released quarterback Reid Sinnett, wide receivers Reggie Roberson Jr. and Brian Hightower, tight end A.J. Lewis, offensive linemen Braylon Jones, Justin Redd, and Brandon Haskin, and defensive end Reggie Walker on Thursday according to the X account UFL Analyst. These moves were made without an official league announcement.
Reid Sinnett is six foot four and weighs 225 pounds. The 27-year-old from Johnston, Iowa, was claimed off waivers by the Houston Roughnecks on January 24, 2024. In 2024, Sinnett completed 117 of 187 passes (62.6%) for 1,136 yards, 5 touchdowns, 4 interceptions, 12 carries for 42 yards, and one touchdown in 10 games.
Sinnett signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent in 2020. Sinnett also had stints with the Miami Dolphins and Philadelphia Eagles. The San Antonio Brahmas signed Sinnett as a free agent on November 17, 2022. In 2023, Sinnett completed 13 of 19 passes (68.4%) for 97 yards, one touchdown, one interception, and one carry for ten yards in five games for the San Antonio Brahmas in 2023.
After the season, Sinnett signed with the Cincinnati Bengals completing 6 of 11 passes (54.5%) for 77 yards, and one touchdown in one preseason game against the Washington Commanders in 2023. He returned to San Antonio but was released on January 23, 2024.
Collegiately, Sinnett played four seasons at San Diego (2016-19) completing 275 of 423 passes (65%) for 33 touchdowns, 13 interceptions, 93 carries for 268 yards, seven touchdowns, one catch for 30 yards, and one touchdown in 45 games for the Toreros. He was named First Team All-PFL in 2019.
Reggie Roberson Jr. is five foot eleven and weighs 193 pounds. The 25-year-old from DeSoto, Texas, signed with the Tennessee Titans as an undrafted free agent on May 13, 2022. He made four catches for 47 yards in two preseason games earning himself a spot on the practice squad.
After Tennessee, he was on the practice squad of the Chicago Bears. The Houston Roughnecks signed Roberson Jr. on April 23, 2024. He did not play for the Roughnecks in 2024.
Collegiately, Roberson Jr. played one season at West Virginia in 2017 making six catches for 30 yards, and one touchdown in five games for the Mountaineers.
Then, Roberson Jr. transferred to Southern Methodist University (2018-21) making 168 catches for 2,704 yards, 23 touchdowns, five carries for 17 yards, nine kick returns for 301 yards, one touchdown, five punt returns for 21 yards, and three tackles (3 solo) in 34 games for the Mustangs. He attended the NFL Combine and the Reese’s Senior Bowl and was named Fourth Team All-ACC Team.
Brian Hightower is six foot three and weighs 215 pounds. The 25-year-old from Los Angeles, California, went undrafted in the 2024 NFL Draft. The Houston Roughnecks signed Hightower on May 7, 2024. He did not play any regular season games for the Roughnecks in 2024.
Collegiately, Hightower played two seasons at Miami (FL) (2018-19) making 12 catches for 148 yards, one touchdown, and four tackles (3 solo, 1 assist) in 18 games for the Hurricanes. Next, he transferred to Illinois (2020-22) making 48 catches for 661 yards, five touchdowns, and one tackle (1 solo) in 24 games for the Fighting Illini. Then, Hightower transferred to California in 2023 making 10 catches for 101 yards in 10 games for the Golden Bears.
A.J. Lewis is six foot three and weighs 250 pounds. The 24-year-old from Mobile, Alabama, signed with the Houston Roughnecks on April 31, 2024. He did not play any games for the Roughnecks in 2024.
Collegiately, Lee played four seasons at Troy University (2019-22) making 18 catches for 151 yards, five touchdowns, two kick returns for no yards, and one tackle (1 solo) in 49 games for the Trojans.
In 2019, he caught a Troy Division I record with three touchdowns in his redshirt freshman season. He finished the season making six catches for 73 yards, and three touchdowns starting all 12 games. Then, Lewis transferred to Alabama State in 2023 making four catches for 50 yards in 11 games for the Hornets.
Braylon Jones is six foot three and weighs 301 pounds. The 26-year-old from Tyler, Texas, re-signed with the Roughnecks on January 22, 2024. In 2024, he played 10 games, of which 9 were starts for the Roughnecks in 2024. Houston’s offense ranked last in total touchdowns (17), seventh in total yards (2,550), rushing yards (744), yards per game (255.0), and fifth in passing yards (1,806).
Jones signed with the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent on May 14, 2021. He spent the season on the practice squad before being released on August 30, 2022. Next, Jones signed with the Houston Gamblers (USFL) on October 6, 2022.
In 2023, he played nine games, of which six were starts. Houston’s offense finished fifth in passing yards per game (174.0), seventh in passing touchdowns (9), tied second in interceptions allowed (10), fourth in sacks allowed (22), second in rushing yards per game (116.5), and first in rushing touchdowns (17).
Jones was released by the Gamblers on August 18, 2023, and he signed with the Arizona Cardinals on August 19, 2023. The Cardinals released him on August 29, 2023.
Collegiately, Jones played five seasons at Houston (2016-20) playing left guard, right guard, and center in 45 games, of which 39 were starts for the Cougars. In 2020, Houston’s offense ranked fourth in the American in passing offense (265.8), and sixth in total offense (408.9).
Justin Redd is six foot four and weighs 328 pounds. The 25-year-old from Hampton, Virginia, signed with the Houston Gamblers (now Roughnecks) on December 16, 2023.
In 2024, Redd played 10 games, of which one was a start. Houston’s offense ranked last in total touchdowns (17), seventh in total yards (2,550), rushing yards (744), yards per game (255.0), and fifth in passing yards (1,806).
Collegiately, Redd played five seasons at Norfolk State (2017-21) playing 34 games at right guard for the Spartans. In 2021, the Spartans’ offensive line helped block for the MEAC’s top scoring (33.2), rushing (212.2 YPG), and total offense (440.5 YPG). Redd was named Second Team All-MEAC in 2019 and the MEAC Offensive Lineman of the Year in 2021.
Then, Redd transferred to East Carolina in 2022 playing 13 games at left tackle for the Pirates. The Pirates’ offensive line helped East Carolina top 450-plus yards of total offense eight times and 500 or more on four occasions including a season-high 575 against South Florida (465 pass, 110 rush).
In addition, they helped running back Keaton Mitchell rush for a 1,000-yard season (1,452) for the second straight season and nine 100-plus rushing yards. East Carolina went on to play in the 2022 TicketSmarter Birmingham Bowl, where they beat Coastal Carolina 53-29.
Brandon Haskin is six foot three and weighs 315 pounds. The 34-year-old from New Orleans, Louisiana, signed with the Houston Roughnecks on January 24, 2024.
In 2024, Haskin played eight games, of which one was a start. Houston’s offense ranked last in total touchdowns (17), seventh in total yards (2,550), rushing yards (744), yards per game (255.0), and fifth in passing yards (1,806).
In 2020, Haskin played five games for the Seattle Dragons (XFL) before the league canceled the rest of the season due to COVID-19. The New Jersey Generals drafted Haskin in the ninth round (348th pick) in the 2022 USFL Supplemental Draft. He played 10 games for the Generals in 2022. In 2023, Haskin played 10 games, of which six were starts.
Collegiately, Haskin played two seasons at Independence Community College (2009-10) playing 20 games for the Pirates. Then, he transferred to Tennessee State (2011-12). In 2011, he played 10 games, of which two were starts for the Tigers.
Reggie Walker is six foot one and weighs 249 pounds. The 28-year-old from Ponchatoula, Louisiana, missed the 2024 season due to an injury.
Walker signed with the Arizona Cardinals as an undrafted free agent in 2020. He played one game for the Cardinals in 2020 with one tackle (1 solo) before spending the rest of the season on the practice squad. After Arizona, Walker signed with the Edmonton Elks on May 15, 2022, but was released on July 29, 2022.
The Houston Gamblers (now the Roughnecks) signed Walkers as a free agent on September 17, 2022. In 2023, Walker made 23 tackles (15 solo, 8 assists), four tackles for loss, four sacks, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery in nine games for the Houston Gamblers in 2023.
Collegiately, Walker played five seasons at Kansas State (2015-19) with 140 tackles (101 solo, 39 assists), 35 tackles for loss, 18 sacks, five pass breakups, nine forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and one blocked punt in 50 games for the Wildcats.
Walker was named First Team All-Big 12 by Athlon Sports in 2016, Big 12 Defenseman Freshman of the Year by both the coaches and ESPN in 2016, Second Team All-Big 12 by the coaches in 2017, and an All-Big 12 Honorable Mention in 2019.
