The Winnipeg Blue Bombers (10-6) visited Tim Hortons Field on Friday night against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (6-10) in their second meeting of the season.
Both teams came into this game red hot with the Blue Bombers winning seven straight games, while the Ticats won four consecutive games. The last time the Ticats lost a game was back in Week 12 against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 26-23 in Winnipeg. Hamilton was looking for payback but Winnipeg got the last laugh.
First Quarter:
Winnipeg got the ball to start the game from their 31-yard line. They gained 43 yards to reach the Ticats’ 36-yard line before a procedure penalty on offensive lineman Chris Kolankowski, and Hamilton defensive lineman Brandon Barlow sacked Zach Collaros for six yards taking Winnipeg out of field range and they punted the ball to Hamilton. Hamilton started their first possession on their 18-yard line.
Hamilton went two-and-out. On third down, Hamilton punter Nik Constantinou punted the ball 31 yards to returner Lucky Whitehead for a two-yard loss. However, a no yards penalty by Hamilton gave Winnipeg good field position on the Ticats’ 41-yard line.
On second down, Winnipeg quarterback Zach Collaros completed a 16-yard pass to Kenny Lawler setting them up on the Ticats’ 25-yard line. Then, Collaros threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Kevens Clercius for a 7-0 lead with 8:06 left of the first quarter.
Hamilton’s offense led by quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell completed three passes for 23 yards, running back James Butler gained one yard, but an illegal contact penalty by Winnipeg moved the ball to the Blue Bombers’ 18-yard line. On the next play, Hamilton’s offensive line opened up a hole for James Butler, who went untouched to score an 18-yard touchdown, and the game was tied 7-7 with 4:37 left of the first quarter.
Winnipeg’s offense got the ball with 4:37 left. They used up all of the time to reach the Ticats’ 15-yard line before kicker Sergio Castillo kicked a 22-yard field goal, and Winnipeg led Hamilton 10-7 to end the first quarter.

Second Quarter:
In the second quarter, both defenses did a nice job forcing two-and-outs. With 8:49 left, Winnipeg quarterback Zach Collaros attempted to complete a pass in the direction of Kenny Lawler and Hamilton defensive back Destin Talbert should have made the interception but the ball went through his hands. Winnipeg ended up punting the ball back to Hamilton with 7:42 left before halftime.
Hamilton was moving the ball with running back James Butler gaining three yards, and quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell threw an 11-yard pass to Kiondre Smith to reach their 53-yard line. Two plays later, Mitchell attempted to throw the ball in the direction of Kiondre Smith. On the next play, running back Brady Oliveira fought hard to reach the end zone. As he was getting taken down, the ball popped out at the goal line for a touchdown but Hamilton made a case that it was a fumble recovered by Jonathan Moxey.
The command center reviewed the play and determined that Oliveira’s knee was down on the one-yard line. Backup quarterback Terry Wilson came in to score the one-yard touchdown extending Winnipeg’s lead 17-7 with 47 seconds left to cap off a five-play drive for 76 yards.
