The Villanova Wildcats (5-2) visited Harold Alfond Sports Stadium on Saturday afternoon against the Maine Black Bears (4-3). Villanova had 214 yards on offense (179 yards passing, 35 yards rushing), and 17 first downs in a 35-7 loss.

Villanova quarterback Connor Watkins completed 14 of 31 passes (45.2%) for 117 yards, two interceptions, and six carries for -29 yards. Backup quarterback Tanner Maddocks completed 4 of 9 passes (44%) for 62 yards, four carries for 9 yards, and one touchdown. Running back David Avit had 10 carries for 39 yards.

Wide receiver Lucas Kopecky made four catches for 43 yards, and Jaylan Sanchez made three catches for 36 yards. Villanova’s defense made 64 tackles, five tackles for loss, one sack, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery.

Maine had 341 yards on offense (186 yards passing, 155 yards rushing), and 14 first downs. Quarterback Carter Peevy completed 16 of 18 passes (88%) for 173 yards, three touchdowns, and seven carries for 10 yards. Running back Brian Santana-Fis had 11 carries for 56 yards, one touchdown, and one catch for 10 yards.

Wide receiver Joe Gillette made four catches for 81 yards, and one touchdown, while Montigo Moss made five catches for 44 yards, and one touchdown. Maine’s defense made 69 tackles, eight tackles for loss, seven sacks, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, two interceptions, five pass breakups, and one blocked kick.
