The San Antonio Brahmas signed quarterback Kellen Mond and offensive lineman Justin Shaffer on Monday according to the UFL Transactions page.
Kellen Mond is six foot three and weighs 211 pounds. The 25-year-old from San Antonio, Texas, was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the third round (66th pick) of the 2021 NFL Draft. In 2021, he completed 2 of 3 passes (66.7%) for 5 yards in one game against the Green Bay Packers. The Vikings released him on August 30, 2022.
The Cleveland Browns acquired him via waivers on August 31, 2022. He spent the season on the practice squad. In 2023, he completed 42 of 74 passes (56.8%) for 390 yards, three touchdowns, two interceptions, and six carries for 25 yards in four preseason games. The Browns released him on August 29, 2023. He also spent time with the Indianapolis Colts and New Orleans Saints.
Collegiately, Mond played four seasons at Texas A&M (2017-20) completing 801 of 1,358 passes (59%) for 9,661 yards, 71 touchdowns, 29 interceptions, 438 carries for 1,609 yards, 22 touchdowns, and two tackles (1 solo, 1 assist) in 46 games for the Aggies.
Mond is Texas A&M’s all-time leader in passing TDs (71), passing yards (9,661), completions (801), attempts (1,358), and total offense (11,269). In 2019, he was named the Academy Sports + Outdoors Texas Bowl MVP and was named the Reese’s Senior Bowl MVP.
Justin Shaffer is six foot four and weighs 330 pounds. The 26-year-old from Ellenwood, Georgia, was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in the sixth round (190th pick) of the 2022 NFL Draft. He spent two seasons on the practice squad. The Falcons released him on March 28, 2024.
Collegiately, Shaffer played five seasons at Georgia (2017-21) playing left guard and right guard in 51 games for the Bulldogs. In 2021, he started 15 games. Georgia’s offense averaged 38.60 points per game, 190.9 rushing yards per game, 251.87 passing yards per game, 442.8 yards per game, and 73 touchdowns.
Georgia finished the season 14-1 and won the CFP National Championship at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana, over the Alabama Crimson Tide 33-18. Shaffer was named Second Team All-SEC.
