Hamilton Tiger-Cats release QB Harrison Frost and seven others from the practice squad

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats released quarterback Harrison Frost, wide receivers Justin Marshall and O.J. Hiliare, offensive lineman Brandon Kemp, defensive linemen Deionte Knight, Reece Martin, and Mario Kendricks, and defensive back Cameron Dantzler from the practice squad on Saturday according to the CFL Transactions page.

Harrison Frost is six foot one and weighs 194 pounds. The 25-year-old from Kennesaw, Georgia, signed with the Seattle Sea Dragons (XFL) on January 21, 2023, but did not see any action.

The Sea Dragons were not included in the XFL and USFL merger which formed the United Football League (UFL). In addition, Frost joined the Virginia Cavaliers staff as a graduate assistant in July 2023 and was invited to the New Orleans Saints rookie minicamp.

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats signed Frost on March 7, 2024. In 2024, he completed 24 of 32 passes (75%) for 222 yards, and one touchdown in one preseason game to earn a spot on the practice squad. Frost completed 8 of 12 passes (66%) for 95 yards, and one touchdown in Week 11 against the Edmonton Elks.

Collegiately, Frost played three seasons at Mercer University (2017-20) completing 87 of 169 passes (51%) for 1,047 yards, 9 touchdowns, 8 interceptions, 24 carries for -40 yards, one touchdown, and one tackle (1 assist) in 27 games for the Bears. He was named to the All-SoCon Fall Academic Team in 2019.

Then, Frost transferred to West Georgia (2021-22) completing 548 of 880 passes (62%) for 6,730 yards, 50 touchdowns, 18 interceptions, 35 carries for 81 yards, one touchdown, and one tackle (1 solo) in 22 games for the Wolves. In 2022, Frost threw for 3,112 yards on the season, ranking second most in a single season in school history.

Justin Marshall is six foot three and weighs 210 pounds. The 25-year-old from Conyers, Georgia, re-signed with the Toronto Argonauts on December 29, 2023. In 2024, Marshall made two catches for 28 yards, and one touchdown in two preseason games, and earned a spot on the practice squad. The Argonauts released him on October 8, 2024. The Hamilton Tiger-Cats signed Marshall on October 12, 2024, and spent several weeks on the practice squad.

Marshall signed with the Atlanta Falcons as an undrafted free agent on May 12, 2023. The Falcons released him on June 16, 2023. Next, he signed with the Seattle Seahawks on August 17, 2023, and played two preseason games. He was targeted twice but made no catches. Then, the Toronto Argonauts signed Marshall on October 2, 2023, and spent the season on the practice squad.

Collegiately, Marshall played three seasons at Louisville (2018-21) making 36 catches for 544 yards and one touchdown in 36 games for the Cardinals. Then, he transferred to Buffalo in 2022 making 64 catches for 837 yards, nine touchdowns, and one kick return for 19 yards in 13 games for the Bulls.

O.J. Hiliare is six foot and weighs 185 pounds. The 23-year-old from Belle Glade, Florida, signed with the Atlanta Falcons as an undrafted free agent on May 22, 2024. He made two catches for 32 yards and one kick return for 25 yards in three preseason games.

The Falcons released him on August 27, 2024. The Hamilton Tiger-Cats signed Hiliare on September 17, 2024, and spent the season on the practice squad.

Collegiately, Hiliare played three seasons at Alabama A&M (2019-21) making 102 catches for 1,365 yards, 13 touchdowns, two carries for six yards, completing one pass for 48 yards, one touchdown, 17 kick returns for 327 yards, 16 punt returns for 141 yards, and one tackle (1 solo) in 24 games for the Bulldogs.

Then, Hiliare transferred to Bowling Green (2022-23) making 103 catches for 1,279 yards, 10 touchdowns, seven carries for 17 yards, and three kick returns for 50 yards in 26 games for the Falcons.

Brandon Kemp is six foot seven and weighs 310 pounds. The 27-year-old from Atlanta, Georgia, re-signed with the Ticats on December 14, 2023. In 2024, Kemp played one game against the Toronto Argonauts in Week 7 and spent the rest of the season on the practice squad.

Kemp attended training camp for the Indianapolis Colts this year after spending two seasons with the Tennessee Titans. The Titans signed Kemp as an undrafted free agent in 2020 and was on the practice squad.

In 2023, Kemp played ten games for the Ticats in 2023. The Ticats’ offense finished seventh in points per game (22.7), fifth in offensive points per game (20.9), fifth in offensive touchdowns (35), fourth in net offense per game (352.0), seventh in rushing yards per game (96.7), and four in sacks allowed (46).

Collegiately, Kemp played 43 games in five seasons at Valdosta State (2015-19), helping Valdosta State finish the 2018 season undefeated and win the Division II National Championship over Ferris State 49-47. The Blazers’ offense finished the year as the highest-scoring team (728 points), averaging 52 points per game.

Deionte Knight is six foot three and weighs 290 pounds. The 25-year-old from Ajax, Ontario, was drafted by the Toronto Argonauts in the second round (10th pick) of the 2022 CFL Draft. He played four games in his rookie season making two tackles as the Argonauts won the 109th Grey Cup over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

In 2023, Knight made 17 tackles, two sacks, and one forced fumble in 17 games. In the 2024 preseason, Knight made one tackle against the Montreal Alouettes. In 2024, Knight played two games recording no stats. The Argonauts released him on July 3, 2024. The Hamilton Tiger-Cats signed Knight on July 3, 2024. He made four tackles in 12 games for the Ticats.

Collegiately, Knight played four seasons at Western University (2018-21) making 96 tackles (34 solo, 62 assists), 17 tackles for loss, 13.5 sacks, two pass breakups, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries, and one touchdown in 28 games for the Mustangs.

In 2021, Knight made 52 tackles (17 solo, 35 assists), 13 tackles for loss, 10 sacks, one pass breakup, two fumble recoveries, and one touchdown in 11 games helping the Mustangs win the Vanier Cup. He won the J. P. Metras Trophy after the season.

Reece Martin is six foot five and weighs 285 pounds. The 24-year-old from Moncton, New Brunswick, was drafted by the Ticats in the fourth round (31st pick) of the 2023 CFL Draft. He spent the 2023 season on the practice squad. In 2024, Martin made five tackles in two preseason games. He appeared in three regular season games recording no stats.

Martin played four seasons at Mount Allison (2018-19, 2021-22) with 67.5 tackles (50 solo, 35 assists), 20.5 tackles for loss, 12.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and six pass breakups in 29 games for the Mounties. He is a three-time Hardy Trophy winner (2018, 2021-22). In 2022, Martin made 25 tackles (19 solo, 12 assists), 5.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, and two pass breakups in eight games for the Mounties.

Mario Kendricks is six foot and weighs 294 pounds. The 23-year-old from Kissimmee, Florida, signed with the Miami Dolphins as an undrafted free agent on May 14, 2024, but the Dolphins released him on July 31, 2024.

Then, Kendricks signed with the Seattle Seahawks on August 8, 2024. He played two preseason games making two tackles (1 solo, 1 assist). The Seahawks released him on August 27, 2024. The Hamilton Tiger-Cats signed Kendricks on September 8, 2024, and spent several weeks on the practice squad.

Collegiately, Kendricks played five seasons at Virginia Tech (2019-23) making 67 tackles (35 solo, 32 assists), 16 tackles for loss, 7 sacks, and three pass breakups in 56 games for the Hokies. In 2023, Kendricks made 16 tackles (10 solo, 6 assists), 4.5 tackles for loss, and 1.5 sacks in 13 games.

Cameron Dantzler is six foot two and weighs 188 pounds. The 26-year-old from Hammond, Louisiana, was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the third round (89th pick) of the 2020 NFL Draft. He played three seasons in Minnesota with 149 tackles (125 solo, 24 assists), six tackles for loss, three interceptions, 17 pass breakups, three forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries in 35 games, of which 26 were starts.

Dantzler was named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team in 2020. After Minnesota, Dantzler spent time with the Washington Commanders, Buffalo Bills, and Houston Texans.

In Houston, Dantzler made three tackles (3 solo), one pass breakup, and one interception in one preseason game for the Houston Texans in 2023. After Houston released him, Dantzler signed with the New Orleans Saints on September 20, 2024, and appeared in two games before spending the rest of the season on the practice squad.

The San Antonio Brahmas signed Dantzler on April 11, 2024. However, he was placed on the suspended list on April 16, 2024, and did not play in the 2024 UFL season. The Hamilton Tiger-Cats signed Dantzler on September 22, 2024, and spent several weeks on the practice squad.

Collegiately, Dantzler played three seasons at Mississippi State (2017-19) with 78 tackles (56 solo, 22 assists), four tackles for loss, one sack, five interceptions for 23 yards, 18 pass breakups, and one fumble recovery in 29 games for the Bulldogs. Dantzler was named Second Team All-SEC in 2018.
