Ottawa Redblacks release DB Tobias Harris and 12 others from the practice squad

The Ottawa Redblacks released running back Khalan Laborn, wide receivers Maurice Ffrench, Rasheed Bailey, Daniel Oladejo, and Lincoln Victor, offensive linemen Isaac Moore, Drake Centers, and Hector Zepeda, defensive lineman Ronheen Bingham, linebackers Heston Lameta and Dan Basambombo, and defensive backs Tobias Harris and C.J. Coldon from the practice squad on Sunday according to the CFL Transactions page.

Khalan Laborn is five foot eleven and weighs 212 pounds. The 25-year-old from Virginia Beach, Virginia, signed with the Edmonton Elks on September 6, 2023, and was placed on the practice squad. Laborn, along with defensive lineman Jake Ceresna were traded to the Toronto Argonauts on January 15, 2024, for wide receiver Kurleigh Gittens Jr. and a 2024 seventh-round draft pick.

The Argonauts re-signed Laborn on February 15, 2024. He played two preseason games for the Argonauts with seven carries for 32 yards, and one catch for four yards. The Argonauts released him on June 2, 2024. The Ottawa Redblacks signed Laborn on August 11, 2024. In 2024, Laborn had 58 carries for 310 yards, one touchdown, and 23 catches for 152 yards in six games.

Collegiately, Laborn played one season at Marshall University in 2022 with 302 carries for 1,513 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 16 catches for 116 yards in 13 games for the Thundering Herd.

Then, Laborn played three seasons at Florida State (2018-20) with 63 carries for 297 yards, four touchdowns, and 11 catches for 103 yards in 12 games for the Seminoles.

Maurice Ffrench is five foot eleven and weighs 200 pounds. The 25-year-old from New Brunswick, New Jersey, signed with the Ottawa Redblacks on August 2, 2023, and spent the rest of the season on the practice squad. The Redblacks released him on April 22, 2024.

Ffrench signed with the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted free agent in 2020, making the practice squad, and later signed with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2022, playing three games with one catch for three yards.

Then, Ffrench signed with the Edmonton Elks on November 23, 2022. Ffrench made 15 catches for 190 yards, and one touchdown in four games for the Elks in 2023 before he was released on July 24, 2023. The Ottawa Redblacks signed Ffrench on August 28, 2024, and spent several weeks on the practice squad.

The Redblacks released him on October 18, 2024. He re-signed with the Redblacks on October 21, 2024, and was released again on October 24, 2024. He re-signed with the Redblacks on October 28, 2024.

Collegiately, Ffrench played four seasons at the University of Pittsburgh (2016-19) with 156 catches for 1,637 yards, ten touchdowns, 49 carries for 379 yards, four touchdowns, 27 kick returns for 652 yards, two touchdowns, and 28 punt returns for 164 yards in 46 games for the Panthers. He was named to the All-ACC third team in 2019.

Rasheed Bailey is six foot one and weighs 217 pounds. The 31-year-old from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, signed with the Toronto Argonauts on February 26, 2024.

At the time of his release, he ranked second in receiving making 24 catches for 245 yards, and two touchdowns in six games. The Argonauts released him on July 26, 2024. The Ottawa Redblacks signed Bailey on August 29, 2024, and spent the season on the practice squad.

Bailey signed with the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted free agent in 2015. From 2015 to 2018, Bailey was on the practice squad for the Eagles twice, Carolina Panthers twice, BC Lions, Cleveland Browns, Jacksonville Jaguars, and San Diego Chargers.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers signed Bailey as a free agent in 2019. In four seasons, Bailey has made 180 catches for 2,072 yards, 20 touchdowns, and 29 carries for 230 yards in 58 games. He helped the Blue Bombers win two Grey Cup championships in 2019 and 2021.

In 2023, Bailey made 46 catches for 508 yards, six touchdowns, and 13 carries for 97 yards in 18 games for the Blue Bombers in 2023 helping them reach the Grey Cup for the fourth straight year. The Blue Bombers did not renew his contract and he became a free agent.

Collegiately, Bailey played at Delaware Valley University (2011-14) with 165 catches for 3,138 yards, 29 touchdowns, and five punt returns for 38 yards in 43 games for the Aggies. He was named Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Offensive Player of the Year, First Team All-Conference, and Maxwell Football Club Tri-State Player of the Year in 2014.

Daniel Oladejo is five foot ten and weighs 192 pounds. The 25-year-old from Ottawa, Ontario, was drafted by the Ottawa Redblacks in the second round (17th pick) of the 2023 CFL Draft. In 2023, he made one catch for 14 yards in one game. In 2024, Oladejo played in two preseason games making two catches for 38 yards. In the regular season, he made three catches for 24 yards in 14 games.

Oladejo played five seasons at the University of Ottawa (2017-22) making 63 catches for 781 yards, six touchdowns, and six kick returns for 112 yards. In his senior year, Oladejo was named OUA Second Team All-Star after making 32 catches for 399 yards, and three touchdowns in eight games for the Gee-Gees. In addition, he was named Gee-Gees Team Award for Outstanding Offensive Player and the President’s Award.

Lincoln Victor is five foot nine and weighs 177 pounds. The 23-year-old from Maui, Hawaii, signed with the Denver Broncos as an undrafted free agent on May 10, 2024, but was released on May 13, 2024. The Ottawa Redblacks signed Victor on September 18, 2024, and spent over a month on the practice squad.

Collegiately, Victor played two seasons at Hawaii (2019-20) making 12 catches for 103 yards, three touchdowns, two carries for 49 yards, and 23 kick returns for 511 yards in 17 games for the Rainbow Warriors.

Then, Victor transferred to Washington State (2021-23) making 137 catches for 1,401 yards, seven touchdowns, eight carries for 12 yards, one touchdown, completed 1 of 4 passes (25%) for 39 yards, 27 kick returns for 542 yards, 11 tackles (8 solo, 3 assists), one tackle for loss, and one forced fumble in 37 games for the Cougars.

Isaac Moore is six foot seven and weighs 300 pounds. The 26-year-old from Orebro, Sweden, attended the Seattle Seahawks and Green Bay Packers rookie minicamps in 2023. In addition, he was also drafted by the Philadelphia Stars in the third round (21st pick) in the 2023 USFL Draft.

The Calgary Stampeders drafted Moore in the first round (6th pick) in the 2023 CFL Global Draft. The Stampeders released him on November 5, 2023. The Ottawa Redblacks signed Moore on May 9, 2024. He appeared in two preseason games and earned a spot on the practice squad.

Before Calgary, Moore played 57 games playing left tackle in five seasons at Temple (2018-22). He played 12 games in 2022 and broke Delvon Randall’s school record for most consecutive games played with 55. Furthermore, Temple’s offense scored 21.92 points per game for a total of 263 points, and the offensive line had the best pass protection in the American Athletic Conference allowing just 10 sacks in 12 games.

The Owls had 1,229 yards, 11 touchdowns in rushing, and 3,217 yards and 18 touchdowns in passing for a total of 4,206 yards. Moore earned postseason fourth-team All-AAC in 2022.

Drake Centers is six foot four and weighs 300 pounds. The 24-year-old from Tatum, Texas, signed with the Ottawa Redblacks on May 12, 2023. In 2023, he played one game and spent the rest of the season on the practice squad.

In 2024, Centers played four games. Ottawa’s offense ranked second in average passing yards (303.1), fourth in average net offense (366.9), tied sixth in sacks allowed (40), seventh in average offensive points (23.3), and ninth in average rushing yards (83.7), and touchdowns (38).

Collegiately, played four seasons at Texas Southern (2019-22) playing right tackle in 19 games for the Tigers. He earned All-SWAC honors in 2021. In 2021, Texas Southern finished with 4,293 yards of offense and finished the season ranked second in total offense, second in rush offense, and third in pass offense.

Hector Zepeda is six foot four and weighs 290 pounds. The 27-year-old from Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico, was drafted by the Galgos de Tijuana in the third round (20th pick) of the 2024 LFA Draft. Zepeda attended the NFL International Combine held in Monterrey. His performance earned him an invite to the NFL’s International Player Pathway Program (IPPP) in 2022.

In addition, the Ottawa Redblacks drafted Zepeda in the first round (8th pick) of the 2022 CFL Global Draft. In 2023, he returned to the NFL’s International Player Pathway Program after attending the International Combine in London. In 2024, Zepeda appeared in two preseason games and earned a spot on the practice squad.

Collegiately, Zepeda played at Borregos ITESM Monterrey (2019-22) playing guard, tackle, and center positions helping the Rams win the CONADEIP championship in 2019, and the ONEFA championship in 2022.

Ronheen Bingham is six foot two and weighs 242 pounds. The 29-year-old from Bennettsville, South Carolina, signed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on October 31, 2022. He played two games making one tackle before the Ticats released him on November 7, 2022.

Bingham signed with the Houston Gamblers (USFL) in 2023. In 2023, Bingham made 24 tackles (11 solo, 13 assists), five tackles for loss, and four sacks in 10 games.

In 2024, the Gamblers were rebranded as the Roughnecks. Bingham made 23 tackles (11 solo, 12 assists), four tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, and one pass breakup in 10 games. The Roughnecks released him on August 15, 2024. The Ottawa Redblacks signed Bingham on September 10, 2024, and spent the season on the practice squad.

Collegiately, Bingham played two seasons at Hutchinson Community College (2015-16) making 110 tackles (29 solo, 81 assists), 25.5 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, three fumble recoveries, and one pass breakup in 20 games for the Blue Dragons.

Then, Bingham transferred to Arkansas State (2017-18) making 87 tackles (37 solo, 50 assists), 26.5 tackles for loss, 14 sacks, five pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery in 25 games for the Red Wolves. He was named First Team All-Sun Belt in 2018 and Second Team All-Sun Belt in 2017.

Heston Lameta is six foot one and weighs 230 pounds. The 26-year-old from Pago Pago, American Samoa, was drafted by the Ottawa Redblacks in the second round (11th pick) of the 2024 CFL Global Draft. In 2024, Lameta made four tackles and one tackle on special teams in two preseason games earning a spot on the practice squad.

Lameta played two seasons at Garden City Community College (2017-18) with 69 tackles (34 solo, 35 assists), 14.5 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries, and five pass breakups in 12 games for the Broncbusters.

Then, Lameta transferred to Northern Arizona University (2019-23) making 142 tackles (61 solo, 81 assists), 9 tackles for loss, three sacks, one pass breakup, and one fumble recovery in 31 games for the Lumberjacks. In 2023, he made 56 tackles (16 solo, 40 assists), one tackle for loss, and one fumble recovery in 11 games.

Dan Basambombo is six foot and weighs 225 pounds. The 27-year-old from Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, was drafted by the Ottawa Redblacks drafted Basambombo in the second round (19th pick) of the 2020 CFL Draft. In 2022, Basambombo made six tackles on special teams in 18 games.

Basambombo sat out the 2023 season with an undisclosed injury. He played three seasons in Ottawa making six tackles on special teams in 23 games. The Calgary Stampeders signed Basambombo on September 9, 2024, and spent the season on the practice squad. The Stampeders released Basambombo on October 27, 2024. The Ottawa Redblacks Basambombo on October 28, 2024, and spent a week on the practice squad.

Collegiately, Basambombo played three seasons at Laval University (2016-18) with 57 tackles (36 solo, 21 assists), four tackles for loss, three sacks, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries in 17 games for the Rouge et Or. He helped Laval win the 54th Vanier Cup in 2018.

Tobias Harris is five foot nine and weighs 187 pounds. The 24-year-old from Pflugerville, Texas, signed with the Ottawa Redblacks on August 2, 2023. In 2023, Harris played ten games recording no stats. In 2024, Harris made 21 tackles, one tackle on special teams, one forced fumble, 9 kick returns for 175 yards, and 16 punt returns for 191 yards in eight games.

Collegiately, Harris played four seasons at West Texas A&M (2018-21) making 162 tackles (112 solo, 50 assists), 5.5 tackles for loss, half a sack, 17 interceptions for 323 yards, three touchdowns, 42 pass breakups, one fumble recovery, 61 punt returns for 804 yards, two touchdowns, 53 kick returns for 1,160 yards, and one touchdown in 34 games for the Buffaloes.

He was a First Team All-American, two-time Second Team D2CCA All-Super Region 4, and Second Team All-Lone Star Conference.

Then, Harris transferred to Old Dominion in 2022 making 33 tackles (14 solo, 19 assists), two tackles for loss, one sack, one interception, 12 pass breakups, and two punt returns for 36 yards in nine games for the Monarchs.

C.J. Coldon is five foot ten and weighs 186 pounds. The 26-year-old from Belleville, Illinois, signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders on January 29, 2024. He played in two preseason games making three tackles and one tackle on special teams.

The Roughriders released him on June 1, 2024.  The Ottawa Redblacks signed Coldon on September 3, 2024, and spent over a month on the practice squad.

The Minnesota Vikings signed Coldon as an undrafted free agent in 2023 and was placed on the practice squad. He made two tackles (2 solo) and one pass breakup for the Minnesota Vikings against the Arizona Cardinals in a preseason game in 2023.

Collegiately, Coldon played four seasons at Wyoming (2018-21) with 112 tackles (78 solo, 34 assists), 6.5 tackles for loss, two interceptions, 17 pass breakups, two fumble recoveries, and one touchdown in 24 games for the Cowboys.

Then, he transferred to Oklahoma in 2022 with 43 tackles (25 solo, 18 assists), two tackles for loss, four interceptions for 32 yards, and ten pass breakups in 12 games for the Sooners. He was named an All-Big Ten Honorable Mention after the season.
