The Montreal Alouettes released quarterback James Morgan, wide receivers Jose Barbon and Daniel Oladejo, offensive lineman Ezzat Elnagmi, defensive linemen Micah Roane, Philippe Lemieux-Cardinal, and Jerron Cage, linebackers K.D. Davis and Titus Wall, and punter Sam Clark from the practice squad on Sunday according to the CFL Transactions page.
The Montreal Alouettes lost to the Toronto Argonauts 30-28 in the Eastern Final. All players from the practice became free agents.
James Morgan is six foot four and weighs 229 pounds. The 27-year-old from Green Bay, Wisconsin, signed with the Montreal Alouettes on January 16, 2024. He played two preseason games completing 15 of 23 passes (65.2%) for 146 yards, one interception, six carries for four yards, and one touchdown, and earned a spot on the practice squad.
In 2024, he dressed for three games but did not record any stats. The Alouettes released him on September 10, 2024. Morgan re-signed with the Alouettes on October 8, 2024. He dressed for an additional game but did not see any action.
Morgan was drafted by the New York Jets in the fourth round (125th pick) of the 2020 NFL Draft. Morgan also spent time with the Carolina Panthers, Pittsburgh Steelers, Indianapolis Colts, and Arizona Cardinals.
The Pittsburgh Maulers signed Morgan as a free agent on January 14, 2023. In 2023, Morgan completed 23 of 48 passes (47.9%) for 210 yards, three interceptions, and five carries for seven yards in three games.
Collegiately, Morgan played three seasons at Bowling Green (2015-17) completing 279 of 538 passes (52%) for 3,342 yards, 25 touchdowns, 22 interceptions, and 71 carries for -109 yards in 21 games for the Falcons.
Then, he transferred to Florida International University (2018-19) completing 420 of 683 passes (61%) for 5,287 yards, 40 touchdowns, 12 interceptions, 59 carries for -59 yards, and three touchdowns in 25 games for the Panthers. He was named an All-C-USA Honorable Mention in 2019.
Jose Barbon is six foot and weighs 185 pounds. The 24-year-old from Havana, Cuba, and raised in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, signed with the Montreal Alouettes on January 4, 2024. He made six catches for 45 yards, and one touchdown in two preseason games to earn a spot on the practice squad. In 2024, Barbon made three catches for 17 yards in two games.
Barbon signed with the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in 2023. He played three preseason games with one catch for six yards. The Calgary Stampeders signed Barbon on October 9, 2023, and was placed on the practice squad.
Collegiately, Barbon played four seasons at Temple (2019-22) with 138 catches for 1,608 yards (38.3 AVG/G), four touchdowns, three carries for 34 yards, one kick return for three yards, and four punt returns for four yards in 42 games for the Owls. He earned All-AAC Honorable Mention in 2022.
Daniel Oladejo is five foot ten and weighs 192 pounds. The 25-year-old from Ottawa, Ontario, was drafted by the Ottawa Redblacks in the second round (17th pick) of the 2023 CFL Draft. In 2023, he made one catch for 14 yards in one game.
In 2024, Oladejo played in two preseason games making two catches for 38 yards (19.0 AVG). In the regular season, he made three catches for 24 yards (8.0 AVG) in 14 games. The Redblacks released Oladejo on November 3, 2024. The Montreal Alouettes signed Oladejo on November 5, 2024, and spent a week on the practice squad.
Oladejo played five seasons at the University of Ottawa (2017-22) making 63 catches for 781 yards, six touchdowns, and six kick returns for 112 yards. In his senior year, Oladejo was named OUA Second Team All-Star after making 32 catches for 399 yards, and three touchdowns in eight games for the Gee-Gees. In addition, he was named Gee-Gees Team Award for Outstanding Offensive Player and the President’s Award.
Ezzat Elnagmi is six foot five and weighs 320 pounds. The 23-year-old from London, England, was invited to the 2024 CFL Invitational Combine from the University of Waterloo’s Feridun Hamdullahpur Field House.
However, he did not participate in the combine. As a result, Elnagmi did not get drafted in the 2024 CFL Global Draft. The Montreal Alouettes signed Elnagmi on July 4, 2024, and spent the season on the practice squad.
Elnagmi played rugby for five years before playing football for the Leicester Falcons for one season and the University West of the of England helping them win the national championship.
Elnagmi played two seasons at St. Clair College (CJFL) (2022-23) playing left tackle, right guard, right tackle, and center in 21 games for the Saints. He was named the OFC Offensive Player of the Year in 2023.
Elnagmi also won the team’s Dr. Patti France Award for Leadership in Athletics in 2023. The award is given to a St. Clair College athlete who best demonstrates the traits of leadership.
In 2023, the St. Clair College Saints averaged 38.3 points per game, 442.5 yards per game, 232.7 passing yards per game, 209.7 rushing yards per game, 47 touchdowns, and allowed 25 sacks in 11 games finishing the season 10-1 losing to the Saskatoon Hilltops in the CJFL Semi-Finals.
In 2022, the St. Clair College Saints averaged 44.6 points per game, 450 yards per game, 200.7 passing yards per game, 249.3 rushing yards per game, 56 touchdowns, and allowed 19 sacks in 11 games where they finished the season 10-1 losing to the Okanagan Sun in the CJFL Semi-Finals.
Micah Roane is six foot four and weighs 255 pounds. The 25-year-old from Chaska, Minnesota, Roane was drafted by the Montreal Alouettes in the fourth round (38th pick) in the 2024 CFL Draft. In 2024, Roane dressed for six games but did not see any action.
Collegiately, Roane played four seasons at South Dakota (2020-23) making 94 tackles (44 solo, 50 assists), 13.5 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, three pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery in 40 games for the Coyotes.
In 2023, Roane made 40 tackles (18 solos, 22 assists), seven tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, two pass breakups, and one fumble recovery in 13 games. Roane was the team’s AFCA Good Works Team Nominee for his work on the field and in the community.
Philippe Lemieux-Cardinal is six foot five and weighs 252 pounds. The 27-year-old from Montreal, Quebec, went undrafted in the 2022 CFL Draft. He signed with the Ottawa Redblacks on January 21, 2023. He was released by the Redblacks on May 22, 2023.
The Montreal Alouettes signed Lemieux-Cardinal on September 1, 2024. He appeared in one game against the Calgary Stampeders in Week 15 recording no stats. The Alouettes released him on September 27, 2024. Montreal re-signed Lemieux-Cardinal on October 23, 2024, and spent the rest of the season on the practice squad.
Collegiately, Lemieux-Cardinal played six seasons with the Carabins (2017-19, 2021-22) with 72.5 tackles, 20.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, seven pass breakups, one interception, and one touchdown. His one interception came in 2018 against Concordia and he returned it for a 78-yard touchdown in a 75-3 win.
In 2021, Lemieux-Cardinal had 13.5 tackles, 4.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery in seven games. He was named U Sports First All-Star Team, RSEQ Lineman of the Year, and RSEQ All-Star Defensive Team.
In 2022, he made 17 tackles, 5.5 sacks, one fumble recovery, and two pass breakups in seven games. The Montreal Carabins finished in second place with a 6-2 record and lost the Dunsmore Cup to Laval 25-24. Lemieux-Cardinal was named U Sports Second All-Star and RSEQ All-Star Defensive Team in 2022.
Jerron Cage is six foot two and weighs 304 pounds. The 25-year-old from Cincinnati, Ohio, signed with the New Orleans Saints on May 12, 2023. In 2023, he made three tackles (2 solo, 1 assist) in three preseason games. The Saints released him on August 29, 2023.
The Montreal Alouettes signed Cage on January 30, 2024. The Alouettes released him on May 15, 2024. Montreal re-signed Cage on October 13, 2024, and spent the rest of the season on the practice squad.
Collegiately, Cage played five seasons at Ohio State (2018-22) making 34 tackles (13 solos, 24 assists), eight tackles for loss, three sacks, one pass breakup, three fumble recoveries, and one touchdown in 30 games for the Buckeyes.
K.D. Davis is six foot and weighs 230 pounds. The 24-year-old from Ennis, Texas, signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders on January 18, 2024. Davis played one preseason game against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2024 making one tackle. The Roughriders released Davis on May 22, 2024. The Montreal Alouettes signed Davis on June 18, 2024. In 2024, Davis made one tackle and one tackle on special teams in two games.
Collegiately, Davis played five seasons at North Texas (2018-22) with 428 tackles (200 solo, 228 assists), 32 tackles for loss, 13 sacks, one interception, four pass breakups, one forced fumble, and four fumble recoveries in 61 games for the Mean Green.
He was named First Team All-C-USA by the coaches in 2021, a First Team All-C-USA by Phil Steele in 2022, C-USA Linebacker of the Year by PFN in 2022, and the C-USA Defensive Player of the Year in 2022.
Titus Wall is six foot and weighs 200 pounds. The 25-year-old from Lima, Ohio, signed with the Montreal Alouettes on June 18, 2024. In 2024, Wall made 21 tackles and four tackles on special teams in 11 games.
The Calgary Stampeders signed Wall as a free agent on April 11, 2022. In 2022, Wall made 39 tackles, two sacks, three interceptions, and one touchdown in ten games. In 2023, Wall made 55 tackles, seven tackles on special teams, five tackles for loss, two sacks, one forced fumble, and two pass breakups in 11 games.
The Stampeders re-signed Wall on January 31, 2024. Wall played two preseason games making four tackles. The Calgary Stampeders released Wall on June 1, 2024.
Collegiately, Wall played five seasons at Missouri State University (2017-21) with 261 tackles (157 solo, 104 assists), six tackles for loss, one sack, one interception, nine pass breakups, and two fumble recoveries in 54 games for the Bears. He was named All-Missouri Valley Football Conference Honorable Mention in 2021.
Sam Clark is six foot four and weighs 202 pounds. The 27-year-old from Lilyfield, Australia, attended the 2024 CFL Kicking Combine in San Diego in January and was drafted by the Montreal Alouettes in the first round (9th pick) of the 2024 CFL Global Draft.
Clark played two preseason games punting the ball six times for 221 yards (36.8 AVG) with a long of 49 yards. He spent the 2024 regular season on the practice squad.
Collegiately, Clark played three seasons at Sacramento State (2019-21) punting the ball 97 times for 4,062 yards (41.9 AVG) with a long of 73 yards, two touchbacks, 37 fair catches, 32 from inside the 20-yard line, 12 from 50-plus yards, and one tackle (1 solo) in 25 games for the Hornets. He was named Third Team All-Big Sky in 2021.
Then, Clark transferred to James Madison in 2022 punting the ball 50 times for 2,161 yards (43.2 AVG) with a long of 65 yards, four touchbacks, 18 fair catches, 16 from inside the 20-yard line, and nine from 50-plus yards in 11 games for the Dukes.
