The Edmonton Elks named Ed Hervey the new Vice President of Football Operations and General Manager on Tuesday.
Ed Hervey is 51-years-old from Houston, Texas. He played eight seasons with the Edmonton Eskimos making 476 catches for 6,715 yards, 43 touchdowns, 3 carries for 17 yards, 1 pass for 52 yards, 2 missed field goal returns for 87 yards, and 24 tackles (12 solo, 12 assists) in 117 games.
“I’m excited about the opportunity to work with Chris, a former teammate and someone who I respect and admire tremendously,” Hervey said. “I can’t ask for a better opportunity to come back to. Above everything else, Edmonton is home. When home calls, you answer it.”
He won two Grey Cup titles as a player, a two-time CFL West All-Star (2001, 2003), and a two-time CFL All-Star (2001, 2003). Hervey is one of a handful of players to win both a Grey Cup and a Super Bowl. Hervey won a Super Bowl with the Dallas Cowboys in 1996.
“Ed embodies the core values that I’m looking for in Edmonton,” Elks President and CEO Chris Morris said. “He’s a man with a tremendous amount of integrity, who believes in consistency and continuity. He brings a wealth of experience working as a general manager in this league, but also understands the importance of innovating as we strive to be Grey Cup champions.”
After his playing career ended, Hervey was a West Coast Scout and Head scout for the Edmonton Eskimos for six years. In 2013, Hervey was the General Manager of the Edmonton Eskimos for three seasons (2013-16) and led Edmonton to make three consecutive division finals after going 4-14 in his first season and the Eskimos won the 2015 Grey Cup. After losing back-to-back final appearances, Hervey was fired after the 2017 season.
In 2018, Hervey was named the General Manager of the B.C. Lions. He spent two seasons (2018-19). During his time in B.C., the Lions went 16-20 and he resigned.
In 2021, he joined the Hamilton Tiger-Cats as an Assistant General Manager and Senior Advisor to the President of Football Operations. Hervey spent four seasons in Hamilton. The Ticats went 31-37 appearing in the 2021 Grey Cup but lost back-to-back Eastern Semi-Final games to the Toronto Argonauts and Montreal Alouettes. This year, the Ticats finished 7-11 missing the playoffs.
