The Toronto Argonauts re-signed defensive back Derek Slywka on Thursday according to the CFL Transactions page.
Derek Slywka is six foot three and weighs 215 pounds. The 23-year-old from Waterloo, New York, signed with the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent on June 6, 2024. He played three preseason games as a wide receiver making two catches for 27 yards.
The Colts released him on August 25, 2024. The Toronto Argonauts signed Slywka on September 23, 2024, and spent the season on the practice squad. The Argonauts released him on November 18, 2024.
Collegiately, Slywka played three seasons at Ithaca College (2021-23) making 119 tackles (64 solo, 55 assists), seven tackles for loss, 11 interceptions for 165 yards, one touchdown, 30 pass breakups, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and four blocked kicks in 34 games for the Bombers.
He was named a two-time First Team All-American, D3football.com Region 2 Defensive Player of the Year, and First Team All-Liberty League in 2023 after making 51 tackles (27 solo, 24 assists), two tackles for loss, six interceptions for 71 yards, 16 pass breakups, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and two blocked kicks in 12 games.
