The Rutgers Scarlet Knights (6-5) hosted the Illinois Fighting Illini (8-3) on Saturday afternoon from SHI Stadium in their final home game of the regular season. Rutgers had 388 yards on offense (175 yards passing, 213 yards passing), and 30 first downs in a 38-31 loss.
Rutgers quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis completed 19 of 37 passes (51.4%) for 175 yards, two touchdowns, 13 carries for 84 yards, and two touchdowns. Running back Kyle Monangai had 28 carries for 122 yards, four catches for 24 yards, and one touchdown.
Wide receiver Ian Strong made six catches for 66 yards, and one touchdown, while Dymere Miller made three catches for 38 yards. Rutgers’s defense made 59 tackles, three tackles for loss, one sack, three pass breakups, and three forced fumbles.
Illinois had 431 yards on offense (249 yards passing, 182 yards rushing), and 24 first downs. Illinois quarterback Luke Altmyer threw a 40-yard touchdown pass to Pat Bryant on fourth down with four seconds left of the game. He finished the afternoon completing 12 of 26 passes (46.2%) for 249 yards, two touchdowns, 11 carries for 74 yards, and one touchdown.
Running back Josh McCray had 13 carries for 58 yards, and one touchdown, while Aidan Laughery had six carries for 26 yards, one touchdown, and one catch for five yards.
Wide receiver Pat Bryant made seven catches for 197 yards, and one touchdown, while Hank Beatty made two catches for 31 yards, and one touchdown. Illinois defense made 81 tackles, two tackles for loss, four pass breakups, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery.
