Memphis Showboats release eight players including running back Titus Swen

The Memphis Showboats released running back Titus Swen, defensive linemen Connor Christian and Daylon Mack, linebackers Anthony Butler, Jeff McCulloch, Malik Lawal, and Terrill Hanks, and defensive back Jarey Elder on Tuesday according to the UFL Transactions page. All of these players were released on November 25, 2024.

Titus Swen is five foot ten and weighs 204 pounds. The 24-year-old from Fort Worth, Texas, was signed with the Memphis Showboats on March 2, 2024. In 2024, Swen had 26 carries for 75 yards, and 13 catches for 69 yards in 10 games. The Showboats re-signed him on August 27, 2024.

Swen signed with the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent on May 5, 2023, but was released three days later. He was drafted by the Seattle Sea Dragons (XFL) in the 2023 XFL Rookie Draft and had signed a letter of intent to play in Seattle. However, the Sea Dragons were not included in the XFL and USFL merger which formed the United Football League (UFL).

Collegiately, Swen played four seasons at Wyoming (2019-22) with 406 carries for 2,161 yards, 16 touchdowns, 22 catches for 178 yards, and 10 kick returns for 186 yards in 33 games for the Cowboys. He was named Second Team All-Mountain West Conference by Pro Football Focus in 2021. In 2022, Swen had 207 carries for 1,039 yards, eight touchdowns, and 14 catches for 108 yards in 12 games.

Connor Christian is six foot three and weighs 270 pounds. The 28-year-old from Dallas, Georgia, was drafted by the Memphis Showboats in the 2024 UFL Dispersal Draft. He was inactive for the Showboats and did not play in the 2024 season. The Showboats re-signed him on September 30, 2024.

Christian played for the Linemen (TSL) in 2021 helping them win the Mega Bowl over the Jousters. The New Orleans Breakers drafted Christian in the 26th round (215th pick) of the 2022 USFL Draft. In 2022, Christian made 18 tackles (11 solos, 7 assists), five tackles for loss, two sacks, one fumble recovery, and one pass breakup in nine games for the Breakers.

In 2023, he made 16 tackles (8 solos, 8 assists), two tackles for loss, and 1.5 sacks in nine games for the Breakers in 2023. He re-signed with the Breakers on September 21, 2023. However, the Breakers were not included in the USFL and XFL merger that formed the United Football League (UFL).

Collegiately, Christian played two seasons at Savannah State (2014-15) with 68 tackles (38 solos, 30 assists), 11.5 tackles for loss, four sacks, one forced fumble, and three fumble recoveries in 22 games for the Tigers.

Then, Christian transferred to Jacksonville State (2017-18) with 51 tackles (22 solos, 29 assists), 15 tackles for loss, nine sacks, and two blocked kicks in 22 games for the Gamecocks.

Daylon Mack is six foot one and weighs 340 pounds. The 27-year-old from Gladewater, Texas, made 15 tackles (9 solos, 6 assists) in 10 games for the Showboats in 2024. The Showboats re-signed him on September 30, 2024.

Mack was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the fifth round (160th pick) of the 2019 NFL Draft. He would later have stints with the Detroit Lions, New York Giants, Green Bay Packers, Arizona Cardinals, and Tennessee Titans.

The Memphis Showboats (then the Tampa Bay Bandits) drafted Mack in the 24th round (194th pick) of the 2022 USFL Draft. In 2022, Mack had 28 tackles (18 solos, 10 assists), four tackles for loss, half a sack, and two pass breakups in nine games for the Bandits. In 2023, Mack made one tackle (1 assist) in two games for the Showboats in 2023 before an injury sidelined him for the season.

Collegiately, Mack played four seasons at Texas A&M (2015-18) with 108 tackles (52 solo, 56 assists), 27 tackles for loss, eight sacks, two pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and one blocked kick in 52 games for the Aggies.

Anthony Butler is six foot one and weighs 230 pounds. The 26-year-old from Charlotte, North Carolina, made 25 tackles (16 solo, 9 assists) and two tackles for loss in six games for the Showboats in 2024. The Showboats re-signed Butler on September 3, 2024.

Butler signed with the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent on May 6, 2021, but was released five days later. The Memphis Showboats (then the Tampa Bay Bandits) signed Butler on May 12, 2022, and played five games with three tackles (2 solos, 1 assist), two interceptions, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery.

In 2023, Butler made 48 tackles (25 solos, 23 assists), one tackle for loss, one interception, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and three pass breakups in ten games for the Showboats.

Collegiately, Butler played four seasons at Charlotte (2016-19) with 146 tackles (62 solos, 84 assists) and 9.5 tackles for loss in 36 games for the 49ers.

Then, Butler transferred to Liberty in 2020 with 67 tackles (32 solos, 35 assists), four tackles for loss, one sack, two interceptions, and four pass breakups in ten games for the Flames. 

Jeff McCulloch is six foot three and weighs 245 pounds. The 26-year-old from Houston, Texas, made three tackles (3 solos) in two games for the Showboats in 2024 before missing the rest of the season due to injury. The Showboats re-signed him on September 30, 2024.

In 2023, McCulloch made 21 tackles (14 solos, 7 assists), four tackles for loss, three sacks, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, two touchdowns, and three pass breakups in six games for the Showboats in 2023.

McCulloch went undrafted in the 2020 NFL Draft. He played for the Sea Lions (TSL) in 2021. The Memphis Showboats (then the Tampa Bay Bandits) signed McCulloch as a free agent on May 27, 2022. He made seven tackles (4 solos, 3 assists) and one forced fumble in two games for the Bandits.

Collegiately, McCulloch played four seasons at Texas (2016-19) with 94 tackles (60 solos, 34 assists), 9.5 tackles for loss, four sacks, one interception for 65 yards, three pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery in 46 games for the Longhorns. He was named Academic Second Team All-Big 12 in 2017.

Malik Lawal is six foot one and weighs 228 pounds. The 27-year-old from Temecula, California, made 41 tackles (29 solos, 12 assists), 3 tackles for loss, and one forced fumble in 7 games. The Showboats re-signed Lawal on August 28, 2024.

Lawal signed with the Memphis Showboats (then Tampa Bay Bandits) on September 26, 2022. In 2023, Lawal made 26 tackles (14 solos, 12 assists), one tackle for loss, and 2 pass breakups in 10 games.

Collegiately, Lawal played three seasons at Arizona State (2016-18) making 33 tackles (25 solos, 8 assists), 3.5 tackles for loss, one forced fumble, one blocked kick, and one punt return for 24 yards in 34 games for the Sun Devils. Then, Lawal transferred to Tulane in 2019 making 37 tackles (22 solos, 15 assists), 2 tackles for loss, and 1 sack in 13 games for the Mean Green.

Terrill Hanks is six foot two and weighs 241 pounds. The 28-year-old from Miami, Florida, signed with the Miami Dolphins as an undrafted free agent on May 10, 2019. He spent the season on the practice squad.

Then, Hanks was drafted by the Birmingham Stallions in the 30th round (247th pick) in the 2022 USFL Draft. Hanks made 13 tackles (6 solos, 7 assists), two tackles for loss, and three pass breakups in nine games for the Stallions in 2022 as Birmingham went on to win the USFL Championship over the Philadelphia Stars.

Next, Hanks was drafted by the D.C. Defenders in the seventh round (54th pick) of the 2023 XFL Supplemental Draft. However, the Defenders released him and Hanks signed with the San Antonio Brahmas. In 2023, Hanks made two tackles (1 solo, 1 assist) in six games for the Brahmas.

In 2024, Hanks was set to play for the Basel Gladiators Switzerland. Instead, he signed with the Memphis Showboats on May 8, 2024. He made eight tackles (3 solos, 5 assists) and one tackle for loss in two games. The Showboats re-signed Hanks on September 19, 2024.

Collegiately, Hanks played four seasons at New Mexico State (2015-18) making 389 tackles (160 solos, 229 assists), 42.5 tackles for loss, 11 sacks, eight interceptions for 47 yards, one touchdown, 22 pass breakups, six forced fumbles, and four fumble recoveries in 45 games for the Aggies. He was named Second Team All-Sun Belt Conference by Phil Steele and an All-Sun Belt Conference Honorable Mention in 2017.

Jarey Elder is five foot eleven and weighs 195 pounds. The 27-year-old from Allentown, Pennsylvania, was drafted by the Memphis Showboats in the 2024 UFL Dispersal Draft. In 2024, Elder made 38 tackles (33 solos, 5 assists), 3 tackles for loss, and 2 pass breakups in 9 games. The Showboats re-signed Elder on August 27, 2024.

Elder played the Blues (TSL) and the Milano Seamen of the Italian Football League in 2021. The New Orleans Breakers drafted Elder in the eighth round (343rd pick) of the 2022 USFL Supplemental Draft. Elder made 44 tackles (23 solos, 21 assists), one fumble recovery, and two pass breakups in ten games for the Breakers in 2022.

In 2023, Elder made 49 tackles (33 solos, 16 assists), one tackle for loss, one sack, two interceptions for 27 yards, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and six pass breakups in ten games.

Collegiately, Elder played four seasons at West Chester University (2016-19) with 187 tackles (117 solos, 70 assists), 12 tackles for loss, half a sack, 14 interceptions for 172 yards, one touchdown, 31 pass breakups, three forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, two kick returns for 34 yards, and 54 punt returns for 380 yards in 47 games for the Golden Rams. He was named First Team All-ECAC in 2017 and an All-American.
