The Calgary Stampeders signed wide receiver Maxim Malenfant, defensive lineman Anthony Federico, and defensive back Jackson Sombach on Wednesday.

Maxim Malenfant is five foot ten and weighs 190 pounds. The 25-year-old from Drummondville, Quebec, signed with the Calgary Stampeders on May 2, 2024. Malenfant did not play in the preseason. The Stampeders released him on July 17, 2024, as he returned to Ottawa for his final collegiate season.

Malenfant played five seasons at the University of Ottawa (2019, 2021-24) making 47 catches for 526 yards, three touchdowns, four carries for 28 yards, seven kick returns for 111 yards, five punt returns for 82 yards, and 10 tackles (8 solo, 2 assists) in 30 games for the Gee-Gees. He was named a two-time U SPORTS Academic All-Canadian.

In 2023, Malenfant made 29 catches for 266 yards, three touchdowns, three carries for 18 yards, one kick return for 16 yards, and three tackles (2 solos, 1 assist) in eight games for the Ottawa Gee-Gees. He led the Gee-Gees with three touchdown catches and finished second on the team in receptions (29) and receiving yards (266). In 2024, he made 10 catches for 122 yards, one carry for 10 yards, and one tackle (1 solo) in four games.

Anthony Federico is six foot four and weighs 240 pounds. The 27-year-old from Niagara Falls, Ontario, was drafted by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the second round (17th pick) in the 2022 CFL Draft. In his rookie season, Federico made five tackles on special teams in 10 games. In 2023, Federico made five tackles on special teams in 13 games for the Ticats.

The Ticats released Federico on June 1, 2024. Federico signed with the Montreal Alouettes on July 9, 2024. He played two games recording no stats. The Alouettes released him on September 16, 2024. The Calgary Stampeders signed Federico on September 17, 2024. He played one game against the B.C. Lions making one tackle on special teams.

Federico played two seasons for the Hamilton Hurricanes of the Canadian Junior Football League while attending Niagara College to work on his sports management diploma. As a member of the Hurricanes, Federico made 34 tackles (23 solo, 11 assists), four tackles on special teams, 11.5 sacks, one forced fumble, one pass breakup, and one blocked kick in 19 games.

Collegiately, Federico played four seasons at Queen’s University (2018-21) making 87 tackles (59 solo, 28 assists), 34.5 tackles for loss, 20.5 sacks, and one pass breakup in 23 games for the Gaels. He was named Second Team U Sports All-Canadian in 2021 after making 33 tackles (24 solo, 9 assists), 12.5 tackles for loss, and eight sacks in 9 games.

Jackson Sombach is five foot nine and weighs 195 pounds. The 24-year-old from Regina, Saskatchewan, was drafted by the Calgary Stampeders in the seventh round (60th pick) in the 2024 CFL Draft. Sombach appeared in two preseason games making two tackles.

In 2024, he spent over two months on the practice squad before being released on August 14, 2024, to return to Regina for his final collegiate season.

Sombach has played six seasons at the University of Regina (2018-24) with 141 tackles (99 solos, 42 assists), four tackles for loss, one sack, four interceptions for 101 yards, 24 pass breakups, and one fumble recovery in 38 games for the Rams. He was named a Canada West All-Star in 2022.

In 2023, Sombach made 32 tackles (25 solos, 7 assists), one interception for 21 yards, and four pass breakups in eight games for the Rams. In 2024, he made 38 tackles (25 solos, 13 assists), 2.5 tackles for loss, two interceptions for 80 yards, 9 pass breakups, and one fumble recovery in 11 games. At the combine, Sombach benched 15, a 4.58 in the 40-yard Dash, a 6.97 in the Cone Drills, and a 4.27 in the Shuttle Drills.
