Report: Minnesota Vikings to sign quarterback Daniel Jones

The Minnesota Vikings are set to sign quarterback Daniel Jones to the practice squad on Wednesday according to NFL Network reporter Tom Pelissero. The Vikings will pay Jones $375,000 for the rest of the season, while the Giants will pay $11.8 million.

Daniel Jones is six foot five and weighs 230 pounds. The 27-year-old from Charlotte, North Carolina, signed a contract extension with the Giants on May 7, 2023, for $160 million including a signing bonus of $36 million, and $92 million guaranteed. In 2024, Jones completed 216 of 341 passes (63.3%) for 2,070 yards, 8 touchdowns, 7 interceptions, 67 carries for 265 yards, and two touchdowns in 10 games. The Giants released him on November 22, 2024.

The New York Giants drafted Jones in the first round (6th pick) of the 2019 NFL Draft. He played six seasons in New York completing 1,437 of 2,241 passes (64.1%) for 14,582 yards, 70 touchdowns, 47 interceptions, 399 carries for 2,179 yards, 15 touchdowns, and one catch for 16 yards in 70 games.

Collegiately, Jones played three seasons at Duke (2016-18) completing 764 of 1,275 passes (59.9%) for 8,201 yards, 52 touchdowns, 29 interceptions, 406 carries for 1,323 yards, 17 touchdowns, making two tackles (2 solos), and punting the ball five times for 170 yards (34 AVG) in 36 games for the Blue Devils.

Daniel Jones was named the MVP in the Reese’s Senior Bowl after completing 8 of 11 passes (72%) for 115 yards, one touchdown, two carries for one yard, and one touchdown.
