The San Antonio Brahmas signed linebacker Garrett Nelson and defensive back William Hooper on Monday according to the UFL Transactions page.
Garrett Nelson is six foot four and weighs 245 pounds. The 24-year-old from Scottsbluff, Nebraska, signed with the Miami Dolphins as an undrafted free agent on May 12, 2023. In 2023, Nelson made six tackles (4 solos, 2 assists), and one sack in three preseason games.
The Dolphins released him on August 28, 2023. The Cincinnati Bengals signed Nelson on September 5, 2023. He spent 18 days on the practice squad before the Bengals released him on September 23, 2023.
Collegiately, Nelson played four seasons at Nebraska (2019-22) making 158 tackles (80 solos, 87 assists), 26 tackles for loss, 12 sacks, two forced fumbles, and four pass breakups in 43 games, of which 32 were starts for the Cornhuskers. He was named Second Team All-Big 10 in 2022.
William Hooper is six foot and weighs 185 pounds. The 24-year-old from Montgomery, Alabama, signed with the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent on May 8, 2023. In 2023, he made three tackles (3 solos) and three pass breakups in three preseason games. The Packers released him on August 29, 2023.
Hooper also spent time on the practice squads of the New England Patriots and Arizona Cardinals in the 2023 season. The Atlanta Falcons signed Hooper on August 12, 2024. In 2024, he made two tackles (2 solos) in two preseason games. The Falcons released him on August 25, 2024.
Collegiately, Hooper played five seasons at Northwestern State (2018-22) making 100 tackles (65 solos, 35 assists), 3.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, three interceptions, 21 pass breakups, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and two blocked kicks in 46 games for the Demons. He was named Second Team All-SoCon in 2022.
