The Birmingham Stallions signed linebacker Chapelle Russell on Thursday according to the UFL Transactions page.
Chapelle Russell is six foot two and weighs 236 pounds. The 27-year-old from Lakewood Township, New Jersey, was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the seventh round (241st pick) of the 2020 NFL Draft. In 2020, he dressed for 11 games and did not see any action. The Buccaneers released him on January 8, 2021.
The Jacksonville Jaguars acquired Russell via waivers on February 8, 2021. In 2021, he made 18 tackles (10 solos, 8 assists) in one game. The Jaguars released him on August 29, 2022. The Pittsburgh Steelers signed Russell on September 1, 2022. In 2023, he made one tackle (1 solo) in one preseason game. He suffered a knee injury and missed the 2023 season.
Russell became a free agent after the 2023 season and signed with the Washington Commanders on August 20, 2024. In 2024, Russell made four tackles (2 solos, 2 assists) in one preseason game. The Commanders released him on August 27, 2024.
Collegiately, Russell played four seasons at Temple (2016-19) making 237 tackles (151 solos, 86 assists), 19.5 tackles for loss, three sacks, nine pass breakups, three forced fumbles, six fumble recoveries, and one touchdown in 45 games for the Owls.
