The Montreal Alouettes announced that offensive lineman Kristian Matte announced his retirement on Thursday.
Kristian Matte is six foot four and weighs 296 pounds. The 39-year-old from St. Hubert, Quebec, re-signed with Montreal on January 25, 2024. He started six games for Montreal in 2024. In 2024, Montreal averaged 25.3 points per game (5th), 332.9 net offense per game (9th), 84.3 rushing yards per game (8th), 264.4 passing yards per game (7th), and 46 touchdowns (4th).
The Houston Texans signed Matte as an undrafted free agent on April 24, 2010. The Texans released him on June 16, 2010. The Montreal Alouettes drafted Matte in the first round (7th pick) of the 2010 CFL Draft.
Matte spent his entire 14-year career with the Alouettes which is tied for third all-time behind Anthony Calvillo (16), Scott Flory (15), and Peter Dalla Riva (14). Matte played 190 games for Montreal during his 14-year career.
In 2023, he started 18 games. Montreal’s offense finished seventh in offensive points per game (20.6), fourth in touchdowns (43), sixth in average net offensive yards (329.7), fifth in average rushing yards (102.2), sixth in average passing yards (250.0), and eighth in sacks allowed (61) on their way to winning the 110th Grey Cup over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Matte is a two-time CFL East All-Star in 2019 and 2021, and a two-time Grey Cup champion (2010, 2023).
Collegiately, Matte played four seasons at Concordia University (2006-09). He was named Second Team All-Canadian in 2009.
