The Villanova Wildcats (9-3) took on the University of Incarnate Word Cardinals (10-2) on Saturday afternoon from Gayle and Tom Benson Stadium in the Second Round of the FCS Playoffs.
Villanova’s offense struggled with 138 yards (103 yards passing, 35 yards rushing), and nine first downs in a 13-6 loss thus ending their 2024 season.
Villanova quarterback Connor Watkins completed 12 of 27 passes (44%) for 103 yards, one interception, and eight carries for -7 yards. Running back David Avit had 10 carries for 36 yards.
Wide receiver Jaylan Sanchez made six catches for 54 yards, while Lucas Kopecky made two catches for 23 yards. Kicker Ethan Gettman made 2 of 2 field goals (100%) with a long of 52 yards. Villanova’s defense made 94 tackles, eight tackles for loss, three forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery.
Incarnate Word had 437 yards on offense (182 yards passing, 255 yards rushing), and 25 first downs. Quarterback Zach Calzada completed 22 of 37 passes (59.4%) for 182 yards, one touchdown, and 14 carries for 87 yards. Running back Lontrell Turner had 18 carries for 120 yards, and one catch for -2 yards.
Wide receiver Jalen Walthall made six catches for 75 yards, while Roy Alexander made nine catches for 69 yards and one touchdown. Kicker Brack Peacock made 2 of 2 field goals (100%) with a long of 35 yards. Incarnate Word’s defense made 54 tackles, eight tackles for loss, three sacks, and one interception.
