Edmonton Elks sign trio of defensive back players including Demetries Ford

The Edmonton Elks signed defensive backs Demetries Ford, Kenneth Logan Jr., and Leonard Johnson on Monday according to the CFL Transactions page.

Demetries Ford is five foot nine and weighs 180 pounds. The 23-year-old from South Miami, Florida, went undrafted in the 2024 NFL Draft. Next, he signed with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on May 1, 2024. Ford played one preseason game against the Calgary Stampeders in 2024 making five tackles and one tackle on special teams.

The Blue Bombers released Ford on June 2, 2024. The Hamilton Tiger-Cats signed Ford on July 14, 2024. He spent nearly two months on the practice squad. The Ticats released him on November 5, 2024.

Collegiately, Ford played one season at Youngstown State in 2019 with 24 tackles (18 solos, 6 assists), half a tackle for loss, one interception for 25 yards, and six pass breakups in 12 games for the Penguins.

Next, Ford transferred to Austin Peay University (2021-22) with 61 tackles (38 solos, 23 assists), one tackle for loss, one sack, three interceptions for 49 yards, 23 pass breakups, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery in 22 games for the Governors. In 2022, he was named Third Team All-American by both Phil Steele and Associated Press, and All-ASUN Conference.

Then, Ford transferred to Arizona State in 2023 with 31 tackles (25 solos, 6 assists), 1.5 tackles for loss, five pass breakups, and one forced fumble in 12 games for the Sun Devils.

Kenneth Logan Jr. is six foot and weighs 205 pounds. The 24-year-old from St. Augustine, Florida, signed with the Los Angeles Rams as an undrafted free agent on May 13, 2024. The Rams released him on August 6, 2024.

Collegiately, Logan Jr. played five seasons at Kansas (2019-23) making 386 tackles (266 solos, 120 assists), 14 tackles for loss, one sack, six interceptions for 107 yards, one touchdown, 20 pass breakups, five forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, 61 kick returns for 1,438 yards, one touchdown, and five punt returns for 28 yards in 59 games for the Jayhawks.

In 2023, he made 95 tackles (64 solos, 31 assists), 7 tackles for loss, one interception for 30 yards, one touchdown, six pass breakups, one forced fumble, and 12 kick returns for 287 yards in 13 games. He was named a two-time Second Team All-Big XII.

Leonard Johnson is six foot and weighs 194 pounds. The 26-year-old from Hayden, Alabama, tore his ACL in 2022 as he was preparing for the 2022 NFL Draft. He signed with the New York Giants as an undrafted free agent on March 25, 2023, but was released on July 25, 2023.

The Toronto Argonauts signed Johnson on December 29, 2023. In 2024, Johnson made 24 tackles in four games. The Argonauts released him on August 31, 2024. Then, Johnson signed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on September 8, 2024, and spent two weeks on the practice squad. The Ticats released him on September 23, 2024.

Collegiately, Johnson played four seasons at Duke (2018-21) with 165 tackles (118 solos, 47 assists), 10 tackles for loss, two sacks, six interceptions, one touchdown, 24 pass breakups, three forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries in 47 games for the Blue Devils. In the 2018 Walk-On’s Independence Bowl against Temple, Johnson made six tackles as the Blue Devils blew out the Owls 56-27.
