CFL suspends B.C. Lions DL Sione Teuhema for two games

The Canadian Football League announced on Tuesday that B.C. Lions defensive lineman Sione Teuhema has been suspended for two games for the 2025 season due to testing positive for the banned substance Amfetamine. Teuhema is an impending free agent.

Players who test positive or fail to provide a sample receive a two-game suspension for a first violation, a nine-game suspension for a second, a one-year suspension for a third, and a lifetime ban for a fourth.

Sione Teuhema is six foot four and weighs 249 pounds. The 29-year-old from Keller, Texas, re-signed with the Lions on January 3, 2024. In 2024, he made 36 tackles, two tackles on special teams, and seven sacks in 18 games.

Teuhema attended rookie minicamps with the Chicago Bears and New York Jets in 2018. Next, he played for the Arizona Hotshots (AAF) in 2019 with 19 tackles (12 solos, 7 assists), one sack, and one forced fumble in eight games.

After the league folded, Teuhema signed with the Carolina Panthers and was placed on the practice squad. In 2021, Teuhema played for the Frisco Fighters (IFL) with nine tackles (7 solos, 3 assists), three tackles for loss, and one sack in three games.

The B.C. Lions signed Teuhema as a free agent on December 14, 2021. In 2022, Teuhema made 23 tackles and eight sacks in 14 games. In 2023, he made 37 tackles, seven sacks, and two fumble recoveries in 17 games. In the Western Final against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Teuhema made two tackles and one sack.

Collegiately, Teuhema played two seasons at LSU (2015-16) making 20 tackles (10 solos, 10 assists), four tackles for loss, and two sacks in 16 games for the Tigers.

Then, Teuhema transferred to Southeastern Louisiana (2016-17) making 109 tackles (75 solos, 34 assists), 26.5 tackles for loss, 13 sacks, one interception for 17 yards, three pass breakups, three forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery in 19 games for the Lions. He was named Second Team All-Southland Conference in 2016.
