The Montreal Alouettes re-signed quarterback James Morgan and wide receiver Jose Barbon while signing running back Tanner Nelmes and defensive back Vincent Delisle on Wednesday.
James Morgan is six foot four and weighs 229 pounds. The 27-year-old from Green Bay, Wisconsin, signed with the Montreal Alouettes on January 16, 2024. He played two preseason games completing 15 of 23 passes (65.2%) for 146 yards, one interception, six carries for four yards, and one touchdown, and earned a spot on the practice squad.
In 2024, he dressed for three games but did not record any stats. The Alouettes released him on September 10, 2024. Morgan re-signed with the Alouettes on October 8, 2024. He dressed for an additional game but did not see any action. The Alouettes released him on November 10, 2024. Montreal re-signed him on November 22, 2024.
Morgan was drafted by the New York Jets in the fourth round (125th pick) of the 2020 NFL Draft. Morgan also spent time with the Carolina Panthers, Pittsburgh Steelers, Indianapolis Colts, and Arizona Cardinals.
The Pittsburgh Maulers signed Morgan as a free agent on January 14, 2023. In 2023, Morgan completed 23 of 48 passes (47.9%) for 210 yards, three interceptions, and five carries for seven yards in three games.
Collegiately, Morgan played three seasons at Bowling Green (2015-17) completing 279 of 538 passes (52%) for 3,342 yards, 25 touchdowns, 22 interceptions, and 71 carries for -109 yards in 21 games for the Falcons.
Then, he transferred to Florida International University (2018-19) completing 420 of 683 passes (61%) for 5,287 yards, 40 touchdowns, 12 interceptions, 59 carries for -59 yards, and three touchdowns in 25 games for the Panthers. He was named an All-C-USA Honorable Mention in 2019.
Jose Barbon is six foot and weighs 185 pounds. The 24-year-old from Havana, Cuba, and raised in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, signed with the Montreal Alouettes on January 4, 2024. He made six catches for 45 yards, and one touchdown in two preseason games to earn a spot on the practice squad. In 2024, Barbon made three catches for 17 yards in two games. The Alouettes released him on November 10, 2024. Montreal re-signed Barbon on December 2, 2024.
Barbon signed with the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in 2023. He played three preseason games with one catch for six yards. The Calgary Stampeders signed Barbon on October 9, 2023, and was placed on the practice squad.
Collegiately, Barbon played four seasons at Temple (2019-22) with 138 catches for 1,608 yards (38.3 AVG/G), four touchdowns, three carries for 34 yards, one kick return for three yards, and four punt returns for four yards in 42 games for the Owls. He earned All-AAC Honorable Mention in 2022.
Tanner Nelmes is six foot and weighs 215 pounds. The 24-year-old from Guelph, Ontario, signed with the Montreal Alouettes on May 6, 2024. In 2024, Nelmes appeared in two preseason games recording no stats. The Alouettes released him on June 1, 2024, and he returned to Wilfrid Laurier for his final season. Montreal signed Nelmes on November 26, 2024.
Collegiately, Nelmes played five seasons at Wilfrid Laurier University (2019-24) with 422 carries for 2,379 yards, 15 touchdowns, 46 catches for 459 yards, three touchdowns, two kick returns for 16 yards, and 14 tackles (9 solos, 5 assists), two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and two blocked kicks in 48 games for the Golden Hawks.
In 2023, Nelmes had 61 carries for 387 yards, three touchdowns, 10 catches for 121 yards, one touchdown, and three tackles (2 solo, 1 assist) in 10 games. In 2024, he had 196 carries for 1,213 yards, 6 touchdowns, 19 catches for 175 yards, and seven tackles (6 solos, 1 assist) in 13 games.
Nelmes was named to the All-Conference Rookie Team and a two-time Academic All-Canadian, 2019 OUA Men’s Football All-Rookie, and helped the Golden Hawks to win the 2024 Yates Cup and the Uteck Bowl.
Vincent Delisle is six foot two and weighs 190 pounds. The 24-year-old from Quebec, Quebec, was drafted by the Montreal Alouettes in the eighth round (74th pick) in the 2024 CFL Draft. Delisle appeared in two preseason games making 5 tackles, and one tackle on special teams. He was placed on the suspended list as he was returning to Laval. Montreal signed Delisle on November 26, 2024.
Collegiately, Delisle played four seasons at the University of Laval (2021-24) making 46 tackles (31 solo, 15 assists), one interception, and three pass breakups in 28 games for the Rouge Et Or. He helped Laval win the 2022 Vanier Cup.
In 2023, Delisle made 10 tackles (7 solo, 3 assists) in seven games. In 2024, he made 19 tackles (12 solos, 7 assists), and one pass breakup in six games helping the Rouge Et Or win the Coupe Mitchell Bowl and the Vanier Cup.
