Saskatchewan Roughriders sign defensive lineman Alex Gubner

The Saskatchewan Roughriders signed defensive lineman Alex Gubner on Friday.

Alex Gubner is six foot three and weighs 284 pounds. The 25-year-old from West Hills, California, signed with the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted free agent on June 13, 2024. In 2024, Gubner made three tackles (1 solo, 2 assists) in three preseason games. The Chiefs released him on August 26, 2024.

Collegiately, Gubner played five seasons at the University of Montana (2019-23) making 172 tackles (48 solos, 124 assists), 28.5 tackles for loss, 10.5 sacks, four interceptions for 22 yards, eight pass breakups, one forced fumble, and one blocked kick in 57 games for the Grizzlies.

In 2023, Gubner was named the team captain. He made 45 tackles (18 solos, 27 assists), 9.5 tackles for loss, three sacks, and two pass breakups in 15 games. Montana’s defense allowed 108.5 yards per game rushing this season which was the third-fewest in the Big Sky Conference and FCS.

Gubner was named a four-time All-American (AFCA, Associate Press, STATS Perform, and Phil Steele), Big Sky Conference Defensive MVP, First Team All-Big Sky (2022), Montana’s Co-Defensive MVP (2022), and the winner of the Steve Carlson Award (Montana’s Most Valuable Player), and the Sims/Miller Award (Outstanding Defensive Lineman).
