The Edmonton Elks and running back Javon Leake agreed to a two-year contract extension through the 2026 season on Monday.
Javon Leake is six foot and weighs 205 pounds. The 26-year-old from Greensboro, North Carolina, signed with the Edmonton Elks on February 13, 2024. In 2024, Leake had 102 carries for 661 yards, six touchdowns, 34 catches for 301 yards, one touchdown, 25 kick returns for 539 yards, and 22 punt returns for 214 yards in 18 games.
Leake signed with the New York Giants as an undrafted free agent in 2020. He also spent time with the Washington Football Team/Commanders and the Detroit Lions.
The Toronto Argonauts signed Leake on April 26, 2022. In 2023, Leake had five carries for 20 yards 38 kick returns for 793 yards, 82 punt returns for 1,216 yards, and four touchdowns in 17 games for the Toronto Argonauts in 2023.
He was named a CFL East All-Star and All-Star. In two seasons, Leake has 15 carries for 52 yards, five catches for 74 yards, 60 kick returns for 1,297 yards, and 22 punt returns for 186 yards in 25 games for the Argonauts.
Collegiately, Leake played three seasons at Maryland (2017-19) with 134 carries for 1,144 yards, 17 touchdowns, 10 catches for 59 yards, 60 kick returns for 1,487 yards, three touchdowns, and 12 tackles (9 solo, 3 assists) in 33 games for the Terrapins.
Leake was named First Team All-Big Ten Return Specialist and the Rodgers-Dwight Big Ten Return Specialist of the Year in 2019.
