The Toronto Argonauts signed defensive back Donald Rutledge Jr. on Monday.
Donald Rutledge Jr. is five foot eleven and weighs 180 pounds. The 27-year-old from Bronx, New York, made 55 tackles (32 solos, 23 assists), three tackles for loss, one interception, three pass breakups, and one fumble recovery in 10 games for the Houston Roughnecks in 2024. The Roughriders released him on July 24, 2024.
The Indianapolis Colts signed Rutledge Jr. as an undrafted free agent on April 29, 2020, and released him on September 5, 2020. Next, he signed with the Arizona Cardinals on January 20, 2021. The Cardinals released him on August 11, 2021.
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers signed Rutledge Jr. on March 24, 2022. In 2022, he made 58 tackles, two tackles on special teams, two sacks, one interception, and one fumble recovery in 16 games helping the Blue Bombers reach the 109th Grey Cup.
The Houston Gamblers (USFL) signed Rutledge Jr. on December 22, 2022. In 2023, he made 38 tackles (27 solos, 11 assists) in seven games before he was placed on injured reserve on May 30, 2023, and missed the rest of the season.
Collegiately, Rutledge Jr. played two seasons at Savannah State (2017-18) making 134 tackles (76 solos, 58 assists), two tackles for loss, four interceptions for 115 yards, 19 pass breakups, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and two punt returns for 45 yards in 21 games for the Tigers.
Then, Rutledge Jr. transferred to Georgia Southern in 2019 making 50 tackles (34 solos, 16 assists), one tackle for loss, one interception for 42 yards, one touchdown, and six pass breakups in 12 games for the Eagles.
