Montreal Alouettes linebacker Frédéric Chagnon announced his retirement on Tuesday.
Frédéric Chagnon is six foot four and weighs 233 pounds. The 32-year-old from Montreal, Quebec, made five tackles on special teams in nine games for the Alouettes in 2024.
The B.C. Lions drafted Chagnon in the third round (24th pick) of the 2017 CFL Draft. Chagnon played three seasons in B.C. making 26 tackles on special teams in 52 games for the Lions. Next, the Montreal Alouettes signed Chagnon on February 12, 2020.
However, the 2020 season was canceled and he became a free agent. Then, Chagnon signed with the Ottawa Redblacks on July 26, 2021, making one tackle, and six tackles on special teams in 14 games.
The Montreal Alouettes signed Chagnon as a free agent on February 12, 2022. In 2022, Chagnon made six tackles on special teams in 16 games. In 2023, Chagnon made 27 tackles, eight tackles for loss, and one sack in 18 games for the Alouettes helping them win the 110th Grey Cup over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
Collegiately, Chagnon played four seasons at the University of Montreal (2013-16) making 75 tackles (37 solos, 38 assists), 7.5 tackles for loss, five sacks, two interceptions, seven pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries in 26 games for the Carabins. He is a member of the 2014 Vanier Cup championship team.
