The Ottawa Redblacks signed wide receivers Kahtero Summers, Maurice Ffrench, Latreal Jones, offensive lineman Darta Lee, and punter Noah Gettman on Thursday.
Kahtero Summers is six foot three and weighs 213 pounds. The 24-year-old from Coatesville, Pennsylvania, went undrafted in the 2024 NFL Draft. The Ottawa Redblacks signed Summers to a future contract on September 16, 2024.
Collegiately, Summers played two seasons at Saint Francis University (2019, 2021) making 58 catches for 863 yards, 9 touchdowns, three carries for 17 yards, and one kick return for 10 yards in 21 games for the Red Flash. He was named Second Team All-NEC and the HERO Sports Sophomore All-American in 2021.
Then, Summers transferred to Rhode Island (2022-23) making 98 catches for 1,702 yards, 12 touchdowns, and three tackles (3 solo) in 22 games for the Rams. In 2023, Summers made 56 catches for 1,027 yards, six touchdowns, and two tackles (2 solo) in 11 games.
He was named First Team All-CAA, First Team All-CAA by Phil Steele, and the New England Football Writers Association All-New England Team in 2023.
Maurice Ffrench is five foot eleven and weighs 200 pounds. The 25-year-old from New Brunswick, New Jersey, signed with the Ottawa Redblacks on August 2, 2023, and spent the rest of the season on the practice squad. The Redblacks released him on April 22, 2024.
Ffrench signed with the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted free agent in 2020, making the practice squad, and later signed with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2022, playing three games with one catch for three yards.
Then, Ffrench signed with the Edmonton Elks on November 23, 2022. Ffrench made 15 catches for 190 yards, and one touchdown in four games for the Elks in 2023 before he was released on July 24, 2023. The Ottawa Redblacks signed Ffrench on August 28, 2024, and spent several weeks on the practice squad.
The Redblacks released him on October 18, 2024. He re-signed with the Redblacks on October 21, 2024, and was released again on October 24, 2024. He would return to Ottawa on October 28, 2024, and spend another week on the practice squad. He was released from the practice squad on November 3, 2024. Ottawa re-signed Ffrench on November 27, 2024.
Collegiately, Ffrench played four seasons at the University of Pittsburgh (2016-19) with 156 catches for 1,637 yards, ten touchdowns, 49 carries for 379 yards, four touchdowns, 27 kick returns for 652 yards, two touchdowns, and 28 punt returns for 164 yards in 46 games for the Panthers. He was named to the All-ACC third team in 2019.
Latreal Jones is six foot one and weighs 195 pounds. The 25-year-old from Taylorsville, Mississippi, signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent on May 10, 2024. In 2024, Jones was targeted two times and made no catches. The Buccaneers released him on August 27, 2024. The Ottawa Redblacks signed Jones on December 9, 2024.
Collegiately, Jones played three seasons at Pearl River City Community College (2019-21) making 66 catches for 874 yards, four touchdowns, 21 kick returns for 442 yards, and two tackles (2 solos) in 23 games for the Wildcats.
Then, Jones transferred to Southern Mississippi University (2022-23) making 16 catches for 229 yards, one touchdown, and one fumble recovery in 15 games for the Golden Eagles. In 2023, Jones made nine catches for 116 yards, one touchdown, and one fumble recovery in six games.
Darta Lee is six foot three and weighs 313 pounds. The 26-year-old from Alief, Texas, spent time with the Arlington Renegades (XFL), and later signed with the Memphis Showboats (USFL) on May 9, 2023, and appeared in one game before spending the rest of the season on injured reserve.
The Toronto Argonauts signed Lee on April 24, 2024. He played left tackle in two preseason games before the Argonauts released him on June 2, 2024. The Ottawa Redblacks signed Lee on September 18, 2024, and spent two months on the practice squad. The Redblacks released him on November 1, 2024. Ottawa re-signed Lee on November 4, 2024.
Collegiately, Lee played one season at Illinois in 2016 playing guard in six games for the Fighting Illini. He was the first Illini true freshman to start on the offensive line in the season opener in at least 20 seasons. Next, Lee transferred to Kilgore College in 2017 finishing the season averaging 368.1 yards per game, 268.4 rushing yards per game, 199.7 passing yards per game, and 26.2 points per game.
Then, Lee transferred to UTEP (2018-20) playing left tackle in 30 games for Miners. In 2020, UTEP’s offensive line helped pave the way for a rushing attack that scored 16 touchdowns and surpassed 1,000 yards on the season.
Noah Gettman is six foot five and weighs 210 pounds. The 24-year-old from Daytona Beach, Florida, signed with the Edmonton Elks on April 20, 2023. The Elks released him on May 13, 2023. Then, he took part in the XFL Specialist Showcase in San Diego, California. The Ottawa Redblacks signed Gettman on November 25, 2024.
Collegiately, Gettman played four seasons at Sacred Heart (2018-21) punting the ball 200 times for 7,928 yards (39.6 AVG), 19 touchbacks, 65 fair catches, 68 from inside the 20-yard line, 27 from 50-plus yards, one blocked punt, 77 kickoffs for 3,815 yards (49.5 AVG), nine touchbacks, and six kicks that went out of bounds, converted ten of eleven field goals (90.9 %) with his longest field goal for 35 yards in 40 games for the Pioneers.
Gettman was named AFCA Second-Team All-American, Stats Perform Second-Team All-American, First-Team All-NEC, and selected to the FCS ADA All-Star Team in 2021.
Next, he transferred to the University of Akron in 2022 with 61 punts for 2,478 yards (40.6 AVG), five touchbacks, 21 fair catches, 13 from inside the 20-yard line, six punts for 50-plus yards, 22 kickoffs for 1,245 yards (56.6 AVG), six touchbacks, and two kicks that went out of bounds in 12 games for the Zips.
