The Memphis Showboats are set to sign running back Deandre Torrey on Friday according to Pro Football Newsroom writer James Larsen.
Deandre Torrey is five foot seven and weighs 201 pounds. The 25-year-old from Gautier, Mississippi, signed with the Toronto Argonauts on January 15, 2024. He was placed on the suspended list on May 16, 2024. The Argonauts released him on November 25, 2024.
Torrey signed with the Michigan Panthers on June 14, 2022. In 2022, he played one game for the against the Pittsburgh Maulers in Week 10 with two carries for three yards. Next, Torrey signed with the Philadelphia Eagles on August 11, 2022. He played two preseason games with three carries for 13 yards. The Eagles released him on August 22, 2022.
The Vegas Vipers drafted Torrey in the ninth round (69th pick) of the 2023 XFL Draft. In 2023, he had 19 carries for 48 yards, one touchdown, six catches for 40 yards, and 18 kick returns for 357 yards in six games.
Collegiately, Torrey played one season at Mississippi Gulf Coast in 2017 with 185 carries for 1,298 yards, 12 touchdowns, six catches for 34 yards, and four kick returns for 132 yards in nine games for the Bulldogs.
Then, Torrey transferred to North Texas (2018-21) with 609 carries for 3,228 yards, 36 touchdowns, 57 catches for 436 yards, four touchdowns, 51 kick returns for 1,159 yards, one touchdown, and one punt for 16 yards in 44 games for the Mean Green. He was named Second-Team All-CUSA in 2021.
