The Houston Roughnecks signed defensive back Damon Arnette and placed tight end Cary Angeline on the retired list on Monday according to the UFL Transactions page.
Damon Arnette is six foot and weighs 195 pounds. The 28-year-old from Dallas, Texas, was drafted by the Las Vegas Raiders in the first round (19th pick) of the 2020 NFL Draft. Arnette played two seasons in Las Vegas making 25 tackles (21 solos, 4 assists), one tackle for loss, and two pass breakups in nine games, of which seven were starts.
The Raiders released him on November 8, 2021. The Miami Dolphins signed Arnette on December 15, 2021. He spent the remainder of the season on the practice squad and became a free agent after the 2021 season. The Kansas City Chiefs signed Arnette on January 20, 2022.
The Chiefs released him on January 29, 2022. Since his release, Arnette has had several run-ins with the law according to the New York Post.
Collegiately, Arnette played four seasons at Ohio State (2016-19) making 140 tackles (104 solos, 36 assists), four tackles for loss, five interceptions for 132 yards, one touchdown, 22 pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery in 53 games for the Buckeyes. He was named Second Team All-Big 10 in 2019.
Cary Angeline is six foot seven and weighs 250 pounds. The 27-year-old from Chester Spring, Pennsylvania, signed with the Arizona Cardinals as an undrafted free agent on May 14, 2021. He was released on August 11, 2021. Next, Angeline signed with the Philadelphia Eagles on August 22, 2021, but was released on August 29, 2021.
The Birmingham Stallions drafted Angeline in the 34th round (267th pick) of the 2022 USFL Draft. In 2022, Angeline made 9 catches for 152 yards, and one touchdown in 6 games helping the Stallions win the USFL Championship over the Philadelphia Stars.
The Stallions released him on April 10, 2023. Angeline signed with the San Antonio Brahmas (XFL) on October 23, 2023. However, he was not part of the roster after the 2024 UFL Dispersal Draft. The Houston Roughnecks signed Angeline on August 20, 2024.
Collegiately, Angeline started at USC (2016-17) but did not play a game for the Trojans. Then, Angeline transferred to N.C. State (2018-20) making 61 catches for 960 yards, and 12 touchdowns in 35 games for the Wolfpack.
