The Montreal Alouettes re-signed fullback Alexandre Gagné to a one-year contract extension through the 2025 season and signed defensive lineman Joe Ozougwu to a three-year contract through the 2027 season on Monday.
Alexandre Gagné is six foot one and weighs 230 pounds. The 32-year-old from St. Hubert, Quebec, made 12 tackles on special teams in 18 games in 2024.
The Saskatchewan Roughriders signed Gagné as an undrafted free agent in 2016 but he chose to return to the University of Sherbrooke for his final collegiate season. Gagné played three seasons in Saskatchewan with 43 tackles on special teams in 37 games.
The Montreal Alouettes signed Gagné as a free agent on February 12, 2020, but the season was canceled. In 2023, he made one tackle, and 16 tackles on special teams in 18 games helping Montreal win the 110th Grey Cup. In four seasons with Montreal, Gagné made one tackle, and 61 tackles on special teams in 68 games.
Collegiately, Gagné played five seasons at the University of Sherbrooke (2012-16) making 167 tackles (90 solos, 77 assists), 16.5 tackles for loss, five sacks, two interceptions, one forced fumble, four forced fumbles, and five pass breakups in 27 games for the Vert et Or.
Joe Ozougwu is six foot two and weighs 236 pounds. The 27-year-old from Alief, Texas, signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent on May 13, 2022. In 2022, he did not play in the preseason due to an injury. He spent six days on the practice squad and the Buccaneers released him on November 8, 2022.
The Birmingham Stallions signed Ozougwu on January 31, 2023. In 2023, he made six tackles (1 solo, 5 assists) in four games helping the Stallions win their second USFL Championship over the Pittsburgh Maulers.
Collegiately, Ozougwu played three seasons at North Texas (2017-19) making 89 tackles (50 solos, 39 assists), 17 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, two pass breakups, and two forced fumbles in 33 games for the Mean Green. Then, he transferred to Arkansas State in 2021 making 57 tackles (33 solos, 24 assists), 16 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, two pass breakups, one forced fumble, and one kick return for 26 yards in 12 games for the Red Wolves.
