The Calgary Stampeders signed linebacker Kelechi Anyalebechi on Thursday according to the CFL Transactions page.
Kelechi Anyalebechi is six foot and weighs 240 pounds. The 24-year-old from Pearland, Texas, signed with the Los Angeles Rams as an undrafted free agent on May 15, 2023. In 2023, he made 10 tackles (5 solos, 5 assists) in three preseason games. The Rams released him on August 28, 2023.
Then, Anyalebechi signed with the San Antonio Brahmas on February 28, 2024, but was released as part of the final cuts in training camp on March 22, 2024. He re-signed with the Brahmas on April 3, 2024. In 2024, Anyalebechi made 8 tackles (3 solos, 5 assists) in 9 games. The Brahmas released him on August 24, 2024.
Collegiately, Anyalebechi played five seasons at Incarnate Word (2018-22) making 285 tackles (162 solos, 123 assists), 28 tackles for loss, 9.5 tackles for loss, four interceptions for 66 yards, one touchdown, 12 pass breakups, six forced fumbles, and four fumble recoveries in 48 games for the Cardinals.
In 2021, Anyalebechi broke the UIW record for total tackles in a season finishing with 130, and was named Third Team FCS All-American after the season. In addition, he was named First Team All-Southland Conference in 2020.
