The Toronto Argonauts re-signed defensive backs Tarvarus McFadden and Mark Milton to contract extensions on Monday. In addition, Toronto signed defensive lineman Daymond Williams and defensive back Craig James.
Tarvarus McFadden is six foot two and weighs 205 pounds. The 27-year-old from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, signed with the San Francisco 49ers as an undrafted free agent on May 1, 2018. He also had stints with the Indianapolis Colts and Detroit Lions.
Next, McFadden signed with the Tampa Bay Vipers (XFL) on December 22, 2019. He made 10 tackles (6 solos, 4 assists), two interceptions for 78 yards, and one touchdown in five games before the league shutdown due to COVID-19.
Then, McFadden signed with the Toronto Argonauts on February 15, 2021. He played two seasons making 65 tackles, five tackles on special teams, four interceptions for 28 yards, and two forced fumbles in 33 games.
In the 2024 preseason, McFadden made six tackles against the Montreal Alouettes. The Argonauts released McFadden on June 2, 2024. He re-signed with the Argonauts on July 23, 2024. In 2024, he made 29 tackles, two interceptions, and one touchdown in 12 games helping Toronto win the 111th Grey Cup over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. It was Toronto’s second Grey Cup championship in three seasons of which McFadden was a part of those two championship seasons.
Collegiately, McFadden played three seasons at Florida State (2015-17) making 53 tackles (41 solos, 12 assists), three tackles for loss, eight interceptions for 16 yards, 16 pass breakups, one kick return for 26 yards, and 12 punt returns for 42 yards in 28 games for the Seminoles. He was named First Team All-ACC, First Team All-American, and the winner of the Jack Tatum Trophy in 2016.
Mark Milton is six foot two and weighs 191 pounds. The 25-year-old from Houston, Texas, signed with the Carolina Panthers as an undrafted free agent on May 11, 2023. Milton made 7 tackles (3 solos, 4 assists) in three preseason games for the Panthers earning himself a spot on the practice squad. However, he was released on September 20, 2023.
Milton would later join the Miami Dolphins practice squad before returning to Carolina. The Panthers released him again on November 11, 2023. Next, Milton signed with the Birmingham Stallions on December 6, 2023. After Birmingham released Milton on March 10, 2024, Milton signed with the San Antonio Brahmas (UFL) but was released on March 22, 2024.
Then, Milton signed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on May 8, 2024. In a preseason game against the Toronto Argonauts, Milton made one tackle earning himself a spot on the practice squad. The Ticats released Milton on June 19, 2024.
The Toronto Argonauts signed Milton on July 1, 2024. In 2024, he made 27 tackles, 7 tackles on special teams, one sack, and two forced fumbles in 11 games helping Toronto win the 111th Grey Cup over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
Collegiately, Milton played five seasons at Baylor (2018-22) with 97 tackles (69 solos, 28 assists), 2 tackles for loss, 1 interception for 2 yards, 9 pass breakups, 1 forced fumble, and 1 fumble recovery in 51 games for the Bears. In addition to football, Milton was a track and field star competing in the 4x100m relay in 2019 finishing fourth place with a time of 39.92 at the conference championships.
Daymond Williams is six foot three and weighs 285 pounds. A native of Round Rock, Texas, Williams went undrafted in the 2024 NFL Draft. He attended the Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie minicamp. Next, he signed with the Bay Area Panthers (IFL) on October 8, 2024.
Collegiately, Williams played two seasons at Cisco College (2019-20) making 56 tackles (35 solos, 21 assists), 16 tackles for loss, 11.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, three pass breakups, and one blocked kick in 16 games for the Wranglers. He was named an NJCAA All-American in 2021.
Next, he transferred to Buffalo (2021-23) making 101 tackles (45 solos, 56 assists), 26 tackles for loss, 12 sacks, one interception, eight pass breakups, and one fumble recovery in 37 games for the Bulls.
Craig James is five foot ten and weighs 195 pounds. The 28-year-old from Springfield, Illinois, signed with the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent on May 7, 2018. In 2018, he made seven tackles (7 solos) in four preseason games. He dressed for three regular season games and spent most of the 2018 season on the practice squad. In 2019, he made four tackles (4 solos) and one pass breakup. The Vikings released him on August 31, 2019.
The Philadelphia Eagles signed James on September 3, 2019. James played two seasons in Philadelphia making 17 tackles (14 solos, 3 assists), one pass breakup, and one fumble recovery in 18 games. For the next two seasons, James suffered a shoulder injury and was placed on the COVID list. The Eagles released him on July 18, 2022.
The New York Jets signed James on July 21, 2022. He spent most of the season on the practice squad. In 2023, James made one tackle (1 solo) in two games. The Jets released him on November 28, 2023. The Detroit Lions signed James on December 21, 2023. He was placed on injured reserve and was released on June 12, 2024.
Collegiately, James played two seasons at Minnesota (2014-15) making 12 tackles (5 solos, 7 assists), three pass breakups, and 27 punt returns for 122 yards in 17 games for the Golden Gophers. Then, he transferred to Southern Illinois (2016-17) making 67 tackles (50 solos, 17 assists), one tackle for loss, five interceptions for 62 yards, one touchdown, 25 pass breakups, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and 21 punt returns for 159 yards in 20 games for the Salukis. He was named to the MVFC All-Newcomer Team in 2017.
