The Houston Roughnecks released running back Dezmon Jackson, wide receiver Carlos Carriere, offensive linemen Calvin Ashley, Ethan Carde, and Maea Teuhema, and linebacker Juwan Mitchell on Tuesday according to the UFL Transactions page.
Dezmon Jackson is five foot eleven and weighs 220 pounds. A native of El Dorado, Arkansas, Jackson went undrafted in the 2023 NFL Draft. The Houston Roughnecks signed Jackson on July 24, 2024.
Collegiately, Jackson played two seasons at Hutchinson Community College (2017-18) with 224 carries for 1,627 yards, 17 touchdowns, 10 catches for 84 yards, five kick returns for 141 yards, and three tackles (3 solos) in 22 games for the Blue Dragons.
Next, Jackson transferred to Oklahoma State (2020-21) with 148 carries for 686 yards, eight touchdowns, 13 catches for 62 yards, and one tackle (1 solo) in 11 games for the Cowboys. He was named an All-Big 12 Honorable Mention Newcomer of the Year in 2020.
Then, Jackson transferred to Sam Houston State in 2022 with 90 carries for 294 yards, one touchdown, five catches for 20 yards, one kick return for 14 yards, and one tackle (1 assist) in eight games for the Bearkats.
Carlos Carriere is six foot five and weighs 200 pounds. A native of Alpharetta, Georgia, Carriere attended the New York Giants rookie minicamp in 2023. Carriere signed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on June 21, 2023. He was on the Ticats practice squad before the Ticats released him on August 1, 2023.
Carriere was drafted by the San Antonio Brahmas in the 2023 XFL Rookie Draft. He went unclaimed in the 2024 UFL Super Draft and became a free agent. The Houston Roughnecks signed Carriere on August 14, 2024.
Collegiately, Carriere played four seasons at the University of Maryland (2018-21) making 38 catches for 480 yards, and six touchdowns in 31 games for the Terrapins. Then, he transferred to Central Michigan in 2022 with 45 catches for 520 yards, and two touchdowns in 11 games for the Chippewas.
Calvin Ashley is six foot six and weighs 310 pounds. The 26-year-old from Orlando, Florida, was drafted by the New Jersey Generals drafted him in the sixth round (45th pick) in the 2022 USFL Draft. In 2022, he played three games for the Generals.
In 2023, he played nine games at right guard for the Generals in 2023. He was named to the All-USFL Team. New Jersey’s offense averaged 162 passing yards per game, 134.2 rushing yards per game, and 21 touchdowns finishing 3-7 for the season. The Birmingham Stallions drafted Ashley in the 2024 UFL Dispersal Draft. The Stallions released him on March 10, 2024.
Collegiately, Ashley played five games in two seasons at Auburn University (2017-18) and one season at Florida A&M in 2019 playing seven games for the Rattlers.
Ethan Carde is six foot eight and weighs 311 pounds. A native of Tampa, Florida, Carde went undrafted in the 2024 NFL and attended the Denver Broncos rookie minicamp in 2024. The Houston Roughnecks signed Carde on September 23, 2024.
Collegiately, Carde played one season at Coffeyville Community College in 2019 playing eight games for the Red Ravens. Next, Carde transferred to Texas Tech (2020-22) playing left tackle in 29 games for the Red Raiders. In 2022, Carde played 275 snaps, grading out at 54.4 overall by Pro Football Focus, and was named Second Team All-Big 12 Academic Team.
Then, Carde transferred to Boise State in 2023 playing left tackle, left guard, and tight end in 13 games for the Broncos. He posted a season-best Pro Football Focus score of 87.7 against San Jose State. He was named to the Academic All-Mountain West in 2023.
Maea Teuhema is six foot five and weighs 315 pounds. The 28-year-old from Keller, Texas, signed with the B.C. Lions on February 23, 2024. In 2024, Teuhema played two preseason games. The Lions released him on June 2, 2024. The Houston Roughnecks signed Teuhema on July 24, 2024.
Teuhema attended the New Orleans Saints rookie minicamp in 2018. Next, he signed with the San Antonio Commanders (AAF) in 2019 playing three games before the league ceased operations after eight weeks into the regular season.
In the same year, he was drafted by the Dallas Renegades (XFL) before he was waived and later claimed by the New York Guardians (XFL). Teuhema was released by the Guardians and was later added to the Team 9 practice squad.
Next, Teuhema signed with the Frisco Fighters (IFL) in 2021. He played three games for the Fighters with nine tackles (7 solo, 2 assists), three tackles for loss, and one sack. The Fighters averaged 39.9 points per game, 77.1 average rushing yards per game, 131 average passing yards per game, and 78 touchdowns.
After Frisco, the Michigan Panthers (USFL) drafted Teuhema in the second round (289th pick) in the 2022 USFL Supplemental Draft. He played ten games for the Panthers in 2022 making one tackle (1 solo). The San Antonio Brahmas signed Teuhema as a free agent on February 21, 2023. In 2023, he started five games helping the Brahmas finish 3-7 for the season.
Collegiately, Teuhema played two seasons at Louisiana State University (2015-16) playing both guard positions and left tackle in 24 games for the Tigers. LSU’s offensive line helped pave the way for back-to-back 1,000-yard rushers in Leonard Fournette and Derrius Guice. In 2015, LSU ranked seventh in rushing yards at 256.8 yards per game as the Tigers’ offensive line helped Leonard Fournette set the LSU single-season rushing record of 1,953 yards.
He was named True Freshman All-American by ESPN after the season. In 2016, LSU finished No. 4 in the SEC with 233.0 rushing yards per game with 30 TDs. Then, Teuhema transferred to Southeastern Louisiana in 2017 starting 11 games for the Lions.
Juwan Mitchell is six foot one and weighs 235 pounds. A native of Newark, New Jersey, Mitchell went undrafted in the 2024 NFL Draft. The Houston Roughnecks signed Mitchell on July 24, 2024.
Collegiately, Mitchell one season at Butler Community College in 2018 making 55 tackles (27 solos, 28 assists), 7.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, one interception for 44 yards, and one pass breakup in 12 games for the Grizzlies. He was named an All-KJCCC Honorable Mention.
Next, he transferred to Texas (2019-20) making 101 tackles (59 solos, 42 assists), eight tackles for loss, three sacks, five pass breakups, and one fumble recovery in 21 games for the Longhorns. Then, he transferred to Tennessee (2021-22) making 51 tackles (22 solos, 29 assists), half tackle for loss, one interception for 48 yards, and four pass breakups in 13 games for the Volunteers.
Mitchell concluded his playing career at Colorado in 2023 making 32 tackles (21 solos, 11 assists), and 2.5 tackles for loss in seven games for the Buffaloes.
