The Montreal Alouettes and kicker David Cote agreed to a one-year contract extension through the 2025 season on Friday. Cote was set to become a free agent next month.

David Cote is six foot four and weighs 223 pounds. The 28-year-old from Quebec City, Quebec, missed the majority of the 2024 season due to an injury. In 2024, he made 9 of 10 field goals (90%) with a long of 41 yards, made 10 of 11 extra points, and 18 kickoffs for 1,149 yards (63.8%) in four games.

The Montreal Alouettes drafted Cote in the fifth round (45th pick) in the 2021 CFL Draft. In his rookie year, he made 32 of 39 field goals (82.1 %), with a long of 49 yards. He also made 32 of 34 extra points, and 67 kickoffs for 4,004 yards (59.8%) in 14 games. He was named the Alouettes Most Outstanding Special Teams Player and Most Outstanding Rookie in his first year.

In 2022, Cote made 44 of 51 field goals (86.3%), with a long of 52 yards. He also made 36 of 37 extra points, and 70 kickoffs for 4,369 yards (62.4%) in 18 games. He led the league with 16 field goals for more than 40 yards. In addition, he made six of seven field goals in the playoffs.

In 2023, he made 39 of 52 field goals (75%) with a long of 51 yards, made 30 of 30 extra points (100%), and 58 kickoffs for 3,802 yards in 16 games helping Montreal win the 110th Grey Cup over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in which he kicked four extra points.

Collegiately, Cote played three seasons at the University of Laval (2017-19) making 58 of 68 field goals (85.3%), with a long of 44 yards, and made 84 extra points in 24 games for the Rouge et Or. In 2018, he converted 15 of 16 field goals (94 %) and made 31 extra points in helping the Rouge et Or win the 2018 Vainer Cup.
