The B.C. Lions and fullback/long snapper Riley Pickett agreed to a one-year contract extension through the 2025 season on Monday. Pickett was scheduled to be a free agent next month.
Riley Pickett is six foot three and weighs 250 pounds. The 27-year-old from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, made one tackle and 11 tackles on special teams in 2024.
The B.C. Lions drafted Pickett in the fifth round (41st pick) in the 2022 CFL Draft. In his rookie season, Pickett made one tackle and two tackles on special teams in two games. In 2023, he made seven tackles on special teams in 18 games.
Pickett played for the Saskatoon Hilltops (CJFL) (2015-17) making 52 tackles (37 solos, 15 assists), 14 tackles on special teams, 13 sacks, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and five pass breakups in 28 games helping the Hilltops win three straight Canadian Bowl championships. In 2017, he was named Defensive Player of the Year.
Collegiately, Pickett played three seasons at the University of Saskatchewan (2018-19, 2021) making 108 tackles (65 solos, 43 assists), 21 tackles for loss, 14 sacks, six pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries in 30 games for the Huskies. Pickett helped the Huskies win the 2018 Vanier Cup and make an appearance in the 2021 Vanier Cup.
