The Birmingham Stallions signed defensive backs A.J. Thomas and Shyheim Carter on Tuesday according to the UFL Transactions page.
A.J. Thomas is six foot two and weighs 214 pounds. The 25-year-old from Detroit, Michigan, signed with the Birmingham Stallions on February 14, 2024. In 2024, Thomas made 34 tackles (22 solo, 12 assists), three interceptions for 51 yards, and four pass breakups in 10 games helping the Stallions win their third straight championship (2 USFL, 1 UFL).
The Stallions released Thomas on August 1, 2024, and he signed with the New England Patriots on August 2, 2024. Thomas made 12 tackles (8 solos, 4 assists) in three preseason games. The Patriots released him on September 16, 2024.
The Chicago Bears signed Thomas as an undrafted free agent on May 9, 2022. He played six NFL regular season games in two seasons making 4 tackles (3 solo, 1 assist). He made 14 tackles (13 solos, 1 assist), one interception, and one pass breakup in three preseason games for the Chicago Bears in 2023.
Collegiately, Thomas played five seasons at Western Michigan (2017-21) making 221 tackles (150 solos, 71 assists), 16 tackles for loss, three sacks, two interceptions for 62 yards, one touchdown, 16 pass breakups, and two fumble recoveries 49 games for the Broncos.
Shyheim Carter is five foot ten and weighs 194 pounds. The 27-year-old from Kentwood, Louisiana, signed with the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent on May 6, 2020. There were no preseason games played in 2020 due to COVID-19. Carter spent the majority of the season on the practice squad for the New York Jets and Atlanta Falcons.
Carter also spent time with the Houston Texans and Tennessee Titans. In 2024, Carter made seven tackles (5 solos, 2 assists) in three preseason games. The Titans released him on August 27, 2024.
Collegiately, Carter played four seasons at Alabama (2016-19) making 101 tackles (57 solos, 44 assists), six tackles for loss, three interceptions for 89 yards, two touchdowns, 21 pass breakups, and two forced fumbles in 50 games for the Crimson Tide.
In 2017, he made seven tackles (2 solos, 5 assists), and one pass breakup in 14 games when Alabama won the National Championship.
