The Houston Roughnecks signed offensive lineman Ryan Pope on Monday according to the UFL Transactions page.
Ryan Pope is six foot seven and weighs 315 pounds. The 28-year-old from Inglewood, California, was drafted by the Birmingham Stallions in the 2024 UFL Dispersal Draft. In 2024, Pope played six games, of which five were starts.
Birmingham’s offense ranked first in total yards (3,475), rushing yards (1,347), second in passing yards (2,128), first in yards per game (347.5), and touchdowns (31) as the Stallions won the UFL Championship over the San Antonio Brahmas 25-0.
The Detroit Lions signed Pope as an undrafted free agent on May 10, 2019. He later spent time with the San Francisco 49ers, Jacksonville Jaguars, Green Bay Packers, Denver Broncos, Arizona Cardinals, and the Los Angeles Rams.
The Birmingham Stallions drafted Pope in the first round (283rd pick) of the 2022 USFL Supplemental Draft. He played ten games for the Stallions helping them win the 2022 USFL Championship over the Philadelphia Stars. In 2023, he played for the Houston Roughnecks (XFL) playing eight games, of which one was a start.
Pope signed with the Birmingham Stallions on June 20, 2023. The Stallions traded Pope to the Philadelphia Stars on November 9, 2023. However, the Stars were not included in the USFL and XFL merger forming the United Football League.
Collegiately, Pope played one season at Long Beach State College in 2014 playing 12 games for the Vikings. Then, Pope transferred to San Diego State (2015-18) playing both tackle positions in 37 games for the Aztecs. He was named Second Team All-MWC in 2018.
