The Ottawa Redblacks acquired running back Daniel Adeboboye from the Toronto Argonauts for a 2026 conditional fifth-round pick and the negotiation list rights to defensive lineman Andre Carter and re-signed defensive lineman Cleyon Laing to a one-year contract extension through the 2025 season on Tuesday.
Dan Adeboboye is five foot eleven and weighs 215 pounds. The 24-year-old from Toronto, Ontario, had 63 carries for 244 yards, six catches for 40 yards, and three kick returns for 23 yards in 18 games helping the Toronto Argonauts win the 111th Grey Cup over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. It was Toronto’s second Grey Cup title in three seasons.
The Toronto Argonauts drafted Adeboboye in the second round (15th pick) of the 2022 CFL Draft. In 2022, Adeboboye had 15 carries for 72 yards, and four catches for 16 yards in 18 games helping the Argonauts win the 109th Grey Cup.
In 2023, Adeboboye had 41 carries for 287 yards, one touchdown, and eight catches for 71 yards in 17 games.
Collegiately, Adeboboye played four seasons at Bryant University (2018-21) with 383 carries for 1,816 yards, 16 touchdowns, 49 catches for 264 yards, three touchdowns, and one kick return for 15 yards in 34 games for the Bulldogs. He was named First Team All-NEC in the Spring 2021 season.
Andre Carter is six foot five and weighs 270 pounds. The 24-year-old from Detroit, Michigan, signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted free agent on May 10, 2024.
The Jaguars released him on July 30, 2024. The Cincinnati Bengals signed Carter on August 7, 2024. In 2024, Carter made six tackles (3 solos, 3 assists) in three preseason games. The Bengals released him on August 23, 2024.
Collegiately, Carter played five seasons at Western Michigan (2018-22) making 132 tackles (67 solos, 65 assists), 28 tackles for loss, 12.5 sacks, one interception for 11 yards, three pass breakups, five forced fumbles, and two touchdowns in 47 games for the Broncos.
Then, he transferred to Indiana in 2023 making 49 tackles (27 solos, 22 assists), 11 tackles for loss, two sacks, and three pass breakups in 12 games for the Hoosiers.
Cleyon Laing is six foot three and weighs 285 pounds. The 34-year-old from Edmonton, Alberta, made 25 tackles, and four sacks in 18 games for the Redblacks in 2024.
The Toronto Argonauts drafted Laing in the first round (9th pick) in the 2012 CFL Draft. However, he chose to finish his collegiate career at Iowa State before joining them in 2013. In his rookie year, Laing made 15 tackles and four sacks in 14 games. Laing played three seasons in Toronto making 71 tackles, 15 sacks, and two forced fumbles in 44 games. He was named a CFL East All-Star in 2015.
The Miami Dolphins signed Laing on February 29, 2016. In 2016, he made nine tackles (7 solos, 2 assists), and one sack in four preseason games. The Dolphins released him on October 31, 2016. The Ottawa Redblacks signed Laing on November 3, 2016. He played one game and appeared in two postseason games as the Redblacks won the 104th Grey Cup over the Calgary Stampeders.
The Toronto Argonauts signed Laing on April 29, 2017. He played three more seasons in Toronto making 81 tackles, one tackle on special teams, 18 sacks, and one forced fumble in 37 games helping Toronto win the 105th Grey Cup over the Calgary Stampeders. Laing was also named a CFL East All-Star three times.
The Ottawa Redblacks signed Laing on February 11, 2020. In 2020, there was no season due to COVID-19. In four seasons, Laing made 94 tackles, one tackle on special teams, 17 sacks, and one forced fumble in 60 games.
Collegiately, Laing played four seasons at Iowa State (2009-12) making 71 tackles (35 solos, 36 assists), seven tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, and two pass breakups in 39 games for the Cyclones.
