The Toronto Argonauts released linebacker Jonathan Jones on Thursday according to the CFL Transactions page.
Jonathan Jones is five foot eleven and weighs 230 pounds. The 27-year-old from Ocoee, Florida, made 29 tackles, eight tackles on special teams, and one forced fumble in 12 games in 2024 helping the Argonauts win the 111th Grey Cup over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. It was Toronto’s second championship in three seasons.
The Toronto Argonauts signed Jones as a free agent on June 25, 2022. In 2022, Jones made ten tackles, five tackles on special teams, one sack, and two interceptions in six games for the Argonauts helping them win the Grey Cup over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. In 2023, he made 49 tackles, 13 tackles on special teams, seven sacks, and one interception in 18 games.
Collegiately, Jones played three seasons at Notre Dame (2017-19) making 16 tackles (9 solos, 7 assists), and two tackles for loss in 35 games for the Fighting Irish.
Then, he transferred to Toledo (2020-21) making 116 tackles (34 solos, 82 assists), 9.5 tackles for loss, four sacks, three pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries in 19 games for the Rockets. He was named Second Team All-MAC in 2021.
