The Canadian Football League suspended defensive back Loucheiz Purifoy for two games for the 2025 season after testing positive for the banned substance Amfetamine on Friday. This suspension comes after the Edmonton Elks released him on the same day.
Players who test positive or fail to provide a sample receive a two-game suspension for a first violation, a nine-game suspension for a second, a one-year suspension for a third, and a lifetime ban for a fourth.
Loucheiz Purifoy is five foot eleven and weighs 190 pounds. The 32-year-old from Cantonment, Florida, made 45 tackles, three tackles on special teams, one sack, and five interceptions in 16 games on his way to being named a CFL West All-Star.
Under the policy, CFL players are subject to mandatory drug testing following a positive result or failure to provide a sample. In addition, they are required to participate in an assessment and clinical evaluation to determine if additional counseling is required.
The policy mandates a total number of league-wide tests equal to the total number of players in the CFL. Testing is ongoing and is conducted year-round.
